I thought that the resurrection of the Eula Valdez-Jean Garcia tandem would only tarnish my memories of them as Amor Powers and Madam Claudia Buenavista, repectively.
Fortunately, the people behind Kampanerang Kuba junked the usual bida-kontrabida dynamic between the two and opted to give them more challenging characters both of whom aren’t exactly good or bad. Both Lucia and Lourdes as essentially good characters but are forced to go against each other because of the situations they are in.
Both women long for the same thing, finding their true daughter. The conflict began with the tug-of-war for Veronica’s (Jodi Sta. Maria) affections. Unfortunately for attention-seeking Veronica, both Lourdes and Lucia are now fighting it out for Imang/Bernadette (Anne Curtis). Loyal viewers know that Imang is really Lourdes’ daughter and Veronica is Lucia’s. We continue to watch and wonder how both women will handle the truth.
At eto pang pasaway nilang tatay ay itinatapat ang dalawa laban sa isa’t-isa.
The result is an interesting conflict of grey (neither good nor bad) characters. Fans of the conflicting tandem surely look forward to more confrontations between the two.
