Bituing Walang Ningning was a disappointment. The story was good, the acting of the main characters were good, but the execution was ho-hum.
There was no chemistry between Zsa Zsa Padilla as Rosamia and Ton-ton Gutierrez Emilio. Although they both performed well, there simply wasn’t any kilig or loving vibe between the two of them. I think Ai-Ai delas Alas as Doris and Emilio had better rapport.
The pacing of the storyline was dragging. Although they managed to fit in a lot of back story in the first episode alone, it was still a bit boring. It seemed like not enough thought and production value when into the back story. Maybe ABS-CBN was scrimping, or maybe they were just lazy. They couldn’t even give Zsa Zsa a nice wig. DUH!
Another big distraction for me were the poor acting of the extras. I know they’re not really important. But still, they manage to ruin the significant moments. The most notable (in a bad way) among the extras were the night club boss who merely shouted at Rosamia and Emilio.
On the other hand, the story was well-written. I like that fact that they subtly threw in a future plotline of Emilia Rose/Dorina having lung problems. Although, I didn’t like the pilot episode, I MIGHT continue watching the show. If the show progresses well this week, I might become a fan. If not… I might still watch it just to show support to it’s actors and the writers. But then again, maybe not.
