As a kid, I was able to watch Herbert Bautista play Teng-teng and morph into Captain Barbell (Edu Manzano). He was, for me, the Pinoy superhero (along with Darna). So I was anticipating GMA 7′s Captain Barbell. But all it brought was disappointment after disappointment.
First, Richard Gutierrez was cast as both Teng-teng and Captain Barbell. I could understand why he is Captain Barbell. But to also play Teng-Teng deviates from the originial concept of Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbell. Teng-teng is patpatin, an average Pinoy everyman. While Captain Barbell is hunky, muscular and strong. A single person playing both characters is in itself stupid. Moreover, Richard is too bulky to be patpatin. He also has tisoy features which cannot be hidden under the super fake tanning make up. But, he is not bulky or muscular enough to be Captain Barbell either. He looks stupid wearing the expensive Captain Barbell suit.
The Captain Barbell suit is another disappointment. Why change Mars Ravelo’s original design? And they didn’t just change it. The new design is definitely miles away from the original thing. And that is not a good thing. It’s just a yellow blob of muscles with a red cape which is hard on the eyes. And OA yung fake muscles ha.
But the real disappointment is the storyline. I get that they have to explore and show the myth behind Captain Barbell. But do they really have to copy Superman’s legend? I know, I know… Captain Barbell is not an alien. He comes from the distant future. But come on, did they really think they can fool us with that tiny bit of inconsequential information? As if his coming from another place (or rather time) wasn’t enough, he also has to reach the present time is such a fashion that other people became affected and mutated? At eto pa… kelangan ba talaga magnakaw ng storyline and scenes from Smallville?
Di na yata ka-kuntento ang writers sa paggaya sa myth ni Superman at kelangan talaga nilang nakawin ang youth ni Superman as portrayed in the WB series Smallville. One not so girly bestfriend, one guy bestfriend, an evil bussiness tycoon, with a son who was pseudo-good turned bad… GANUN?!
The really annoying thing is they are marketing this thing as Mars Ravelo’s creation, and as a Filipino original. If I were related to Mars Ravelo, I’d demand an explanation. They not only butchered his masterpiece but also turned it into something very un-Filipino and unoriginal.

KUNG SINO MAN ANG GUMAWA NG STORY NG PANLALAIT SA CB WALANG HIYA KA!!! ALAM KO YU ARE A KAPAMILYA SO GANUN NA LNG PANINIRA MO SA CB!!! BASTA HIGH PARIN ANG RATINGS NITO!!! ANG KAPAL NG MUKHA MO!!! GRABENG WRITER KA!!! KAPAMILYA SUCKS VERY AT TRYING HARD!!
May 30th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
Trying hard?
Try mo nga defend yan… rationally and logically. Balik ka dito ha, I’ll be waiting for you arguments.
And no, di ako kapamilya. In fact I am a fan of some Kapuso shows and stars. I was an avid fan of SS1 and SS3. Nanonood din ako ng Extra Challenge (dati) and Encantadia.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:04 pm
i dont think that its right to compare this to the old version, this one is new and improved.siguro nga mas makakabuti kung ginaya nila yung old story ng CB,pero everybody knows that, they just had to turn it all around and made it thier own.like Darna,it was damn not the same as the old one, pero it was still good kasi it is something different for the viewers.it their is a show to be criticized that would be Panday, not only they changed the story, they also copied some ideas from Enca.but back to CB,lets just not focus to the bad side of the show but more on the show itself.and plus, they know they had coppied parts of different superheroes.they had admitted that when CB went to the past was inspired by Superman, and also the bestfriend againts bestfriend thing was inspired by Spiderman.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:10 pm
Ang sa akin lang… why did they had to ruin a Pinoy original by copying foreign ones???
May 30th, 2006 at 10:12 pm
Darna was different from the original Darna pero di naman sila nangopya ng foreign materials kaya mas ok. Para kasing insulto na they “improved” a Pino classic by copying others.
Also, how can you say that Panday copied Enca??? Di kasi ako nakanood ng Panday.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:29 pm
Panday coppied that idea where only girls leved in one town or whatever.nga pala,Panday already ended?wow, didnt even notice.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:31 pm
yea,you have a point on there, pero sana give CB a chance.i think its really good that they made such a show.just maybe if we dont focus on the bad side of it,itll be better.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:37 pm
Kasi when I first saw that sa Etheria, the amazona legend/myth/stories agad naisip ko. If you watch mga old Pinoy comedies, na nawawala sa gubat yung mga bida… usually, may mga amzona communities , hehe… lumalabas edad ko. anyway, ENCA the best pa rin!!!
About giving CB a chance, I’ll be watching it every now and then. Pero I just had to say my piece regarding originality. Halos entire storyline yung kinopya, including the characters.
I guess mas appreciate ko yung Darna tv adaptation (kahit di ako fan nun), kasi they just expanded the Darna story, made it more interesting, pero nandun pa rin yung pinaka-essense ni Darna.
May 31st, 2006 at 1:11 am
May 31st, 2006 at 2:18 am
hahhaaay!!! bahala kayo sa buhay niyo!!! basta KAPUSO FOREVER!!!
buti pa I LOVE NY nlng panoorin nyo!!! hehehe!!! mas cool pa!!!right???
keep supporting JENMARK!! muahh!!!!
May 31st, 2006 at 6:31 am
you know whats the real deal about it.. its YOU!!! bakit ba lagi mo cinocopair ung super man sa cb… pinoy tayo suportahan nmn natin ung atin kahit my conflict tayo sa net.. hnd ako na dis appoint kc alam ko na as the time goes by laging my pagbvabago… kahit anong bagay nagbabago nohh. kaines ka disapoin ka ng dissaoint jan eh… kuya ko nga na solid kapamilya.. sumusubayby na rin ehh at guess wat hnd tnga kuya ko(he knows anything about evrything) pero ok lang ung change na ginawa…at hindi namn c herbert ung unang gumawa ng cb na movie ah my dalawa pa c dolphy at bob soler…. at hnd tlaga ganun ung costume noh?? ung una green na hubad tapos parang dracula ung kapa.. eto pa! c mars ravelo mismo nag sabi neto
“”"”"He notes “The original Captain Barbell design had him shirtless because
a) During the more whimsical comics age in the Philippines of 1963, Mars Ravelo based the good Captain’s look on circus strongmen, but with the addition of a mask.
b) Since the original Enteng’s look (right) was a really super-skinny guy in a tank top (emphasizing his bony features), it was decided that Captain Barbell’s “Shirtless Circus Strongman look” could provide a much more dramatic contrast to his mortal persona.”"”"” yan so alam na natin na kay herbert palang ibang iba na… at ung suit hnd ka dpat na disapoint bihira yung mangyari…. well unless selos ung kapamilya na sure na gagayahin nanaman(sori to say : (
He further notes “The movie versions of Captain Barbell had to be redesigned from the comic’s original because they’re not as muscle bound as the comics version and were not body builders but actors. That’s why they have the yellow top and now carry the “CB” symbol on their chest as opposed to the belt buckle logo-and-shirtless-look of 1963… In fact, Captain Barbell has made several excursions onto the big screen, with Bob Soler apparently being the first to play the part. Then, according to ‘Bembot’ “There was a movie about Barbell starred by Dolphy in the early sixties in black and white. His alter ego was called Ting-ting because he was so thin. Ting-ting is the rib of a coconut leaf which is used to make brooms (walis ting-ting).” In 1986 Edu Manzano played the title character in Captain Barbell, made by Viva Films. It was notable because it was the only movie that showed a crossover team-up between Captain Barbel and Darna thats all sana kung naapriciete nyo ung maraming change sa darna gaya ng parehong narda at darna.. kaya wag kang dissapoin ng dissapoint., porke hnd kapamilya si captain barbell gaganyangaynin nyo na wag nmn khit papano kasama yan sa kultura natin… maraming exple ng pagbabago pero hnd nmn ibig sabihin pangit na… marami pa tlga akong sasabihin.. pero tinatamad na akong magtype… bye,,

I don’t watch Pinoy teleseryes but I happened to catch the first 3 episodes of Captain Barbell. And it’s forgivable that the basic premise is similar to that of Superman I guess because Captain Barbell is our own version of Superman. HOWEVER, being someone who has seen the original Superman movie and followed the first season of Smallville, what I saw was not merely a homage to Superman, but a rip-off. Come on. Open your eyes. Adopted parents driving a red pick-up truck through the desert when a meteor capsule carrying a baby from another time. THey didn’t even TRY to look original by at least changing the kind of car Teng’s adopted parents were riding in. And discovering his super strength when he lifts the Lolo’s tractor. Whoa! De Ja Vu? And these are just physical rip-offs. I can write a whole essay on the unoriginal story. Saying to just turn a blind eye on its flaws is being in denial and a hindrance to improving the series. We must look within its flaws and change it. it may be rating high now, but when people realize that they’re watching a second-rate version of Smallville, Captain Barbell may not be as strong anymore in a month or so. I wonder if Warner Brothers can sue GMA for infringement?
May 31st, 2006 at 2:03 pm
i had been watching some of the fantaseryes from gma (don’t have the chance to watch those from abs cus my mom is an avid kapuso and she’ll kill the person who’ll try to change channel when she’s watching)–so, anyway. here’s what i noticed: encantadia seems like a poor imitation of lord of the rings. and they did a second take on that one pa. still lord of the rings style. majika is after harry potter. this latest one, cb, is superman. and they’re bragging about helping the filipino film industry! kakahiya naman.
May 31st, 2006 at 5:25 pm
do you guys watch smallville?
if yes, you would agree that this series should be renamed as PINOY SMALLVILLE, sobrang gaya ung storyline kasi.. kainis, kala ko maganda
May 31st, 2006 at 8:18 pm
wait. bakit di nyo sinabi yan sa Panday or sa Bituing Walang Ning Ning? and Encantadia so far from Lord Of the Rings. gosh not even close.is it just because of Imaw the reminded you of it? gosh. how can you say CB is a rip-off of Superman? thats our own history right there. CB the series might be a rip-off of Smallville, but can we atleast appreciatea show? bakit sinabi nyo ba yan nung lumabas ang movie na Exodus? which is the one coppied of Lord of the rings or Gulong ng Palad which got alot of complaints because they had changed the story? well were all hypocrites here unless your just a kapamilya. and how are they braggin about helping the movie industry kung ang pinaguusapan natin is about TV SHOWS. i guess kung napanood nyo na ang Smallville de wag na kayong manood. and if you dont like it that much just turn off your TV, or change your channel. i guess not everyone can be pleased by this.
June 1st, 2006 at 1:29 am
I think Encantadia nga is so far from Lord of the Rings in terms of storyline and themes.
June 1st, 2006 at 1:37 am
Please continue commenting, discussing here. I’ll post/comment more on the show if I get the chance to watch it again.
June 1st, 2006 at 5:54 am
I like Encantadia, and for me, its the best in its genre, next ung Marina. Siguro kaya nasabi ung mga yan sa CB kasi its a rip off talaga, and many are a expecting a lot from the series, after Encatadia, Etheria, Sugo and Majika,,
June 1st, 2006 at 6:24 am
i agree w/ chaka just shut ur pie holes, kung ung target nyo lang ung manira ng walang paninindigan, ..
June 1st, 2006 at 9:03 am
If we want to progress as a formidable force in the global television and movie industry, we must stop ripping-off foreign ideas and come up with our own original and creative shows and movies with fresh stories and concepts. Imagine exporting Captain Barbell the series to another country. People will just laugh at us and look down on us even more as mere slaves of colonial mentality. Come on, we Filipinos can do better than ripping off a foreign Television show. If we support shows that aren’t original, then we are encouraging television companies to produce more unoriginal shows kasi it works naman and people don’t care. but if we voice our opinions out loud and show them that we’re not stupid and we CHOOSE what we watch and just don’t take whatever is fed to us, maybe the television companies will think twice about making “recycled garbage” shows and make more innovative and original shows to show that the Filipino is world-class.

BAKIT CHIKA HINDI BA MAS MATAAS ANG RATINGS NG GMA KESA SA ABS? SO TRYING HARD ITO!!!
June 1st, 2006 at 5:33 pm
[b]comment/suggestion lang kay chikadora hah! pwede ba wag naman sanang puro pbb updates na lang ang mga article nakakaboring ang site punong puno ng pbb, kaya minsan a month ako bumivisit, sana naman gawa ka na lang ng celeb articles or some new shows di yung puro pbb, and also the poll puro pbb na rin, parang ginawa mo na tong kapamilya website o kaya PBB WEBSITE…………………[/B]
June 1st, 2006 at 5:38 pm
kellie…
1. I don’t believe in ratings. Because…
a) I’ve never seen or heard an explanation kung paano yan nakukuha;
b) GMA (Greater Manila Area) ratings lang daw yan;
c) Hindi porke mataas ang ratings, quality agad.
June 1st, 2006 at 5:41 pm
Friend-ster…
Sorry kung medyo pbb mode ako ngayong summer, fave ko kasi for the moment. And pansin ko when I post stuff about Kapuso stars and shows, wala naman masyadong response/replies, kaya nakakawalang gana. Also wala masyado akong nahahanap na pics/videos sa net ng Kapuso shows/stars. Yung polls ko, if you look at the archives, marami rin about Kapuso stars and shows. Balik ka in a few weeks, promise marami na about GMA.
June 1st, 2006 at 8:09 pm
In their desperation to give Richard Guttierez a show, they copied smallville. Saw the primer and I got turned off.
the crash scene
the barbel turned medallion
the “barbanium”
the mutation of the villains due to the crash
the building of the farm fence scene
the “lana lane” character with the bully boyfriend
the bestfriend “chloe” (camille prats) character who has a crush on teng
the lex luthor being saved from a car crash
the lionel luthor, hotshot businessman.
i kinda agree with chikadora’s review.
June 1st, 2006 at 9:42 pm
chika,
June 1st, 2006 at 10:44 pm
“pinoy tayo suportahan nmn natin ung atin kahit my conflict tayo sa net.. ”
June 1st, 2006 at 11:35 pm
This is not about ratings, or a comparison of teleseryes… the main concern here is the story line that CB offers, it is undeniably patterned from smallville. I mean they were able to invest on the costume and effects, but they did not scrutinize well on the script? or might as well invest on the writer also?
it is acceptable if they want to change the concept of the original CB story, but at least make it unique or original.
And the viewing audience?…. they can fool the people especially the die-hard fans of GMA7, they will blindly patronize the teleserye…
Ask them to change the tile to CAPT. SMALLBELL
I remember Orange and Lemons’ Pinoy ako, now in Teleserye form…. Nakakahiya naman ‘to sobra….
June 1st, 2006 at 11:39 pm
you cant say that hindi importante ang ratings.shows revolves around ratings,if you got a higher percentage that means alot is watching your show. if low de wala.thats where shows get thier profit from.if hindi mataas ang ratings mo,eh walang mag aadvertise ng show mo.which comes to a cancelation of the show.
June 2nd, 2006 at 3:18 am
June 2nd, 2006 at 3:26 am
wow, meron dn palang may malawak n icpan at hinde bulag, i agre with with chikadora. Nd nman sya nangaaway a, nag komento lng,,,,, kaya cool lng kau
June 2nd, 2006 at 3:33 am
kung sabagay original cguro s knila kc nd s pinoy ginaya sa ibang lahi…
pero lam niyo dati ang 7 puro english sitcom, (may pilipino kunti lng) mula monday hanggang sunday…. V, Charles’s angel, murder she wrote, dynasty A-TEAM, wonderful world of disney, etc, lam ko nanonood ako ng bata p me, until one day channel 2 , give opportunity s artistang pilipino. when they started making pilipino sitcom n kinagt ng masang pinoy
June 2nd, 2006 at 8:04 am
ripping off is not a dissapointment acctualy all of us are a ripper.. why? lahat my basehan mula styles, magasin na binabasa, sa mga gamit natin, pananalita, ang dami ngang ganyan sa mga sidewalk eh! and more cguro ayw lang natin aminin pero ganun yun! lahat halos nagagaya natin para lang maging in… at isa pa malay natin dun tlga benase ni mars ung komics na cb… so ayuz kung mas nadagdagan ng flicks at ..dba cbi nga ng anak nya sa the making naka22ok lagi cya sa hollywood movies. at dun cya kumukuha ng ibaibang ideas,,,, for ex. sa pinoy lasticman sa holly plasticman,,, na obvios na nagaya,,ginawa un ni mars para ma-entertain tayo,, ganun din ngaun sa ginawa ng 7 problema lang mas-masiado na tyong expose sa mga forien kaya kung buhay pa c mars ngaun madidisapoint cya dhil mas pinagtatangol nyo ung iba.. kysa saatin na kahit na rip off lang,, hnd nmn makapal ung muka ng witter para total rip ung ginawa. ung idea nmn kc is not ung story or whatever, kung hnd sa orig na concept nya na barbell… ok!! at sa ratings lang yan makikita!
June 2nd, 2006 at 8:08 am
wow! nasabi na ni Captain Barbell: A Smallville Rip-off? – Mukamo Philippines ung gusto kung sabihin at iexplan…
June 3rd, 2006 at 2:21 am
mary jane = lois lane
daily planet = daily buggle
goblin = luthor
aunt may = martha kent
uncle ben = jonathan kent
at marami pang iba

June 3rd, 2006 at 11:29 pm

June 4th, 2006 at 12:21 am
I think its so unfair, give the show a chance to prove themselves. and i bet this is just ur opinion and everyone is entitled for it, konting bosina lang po.
June 4th, 2006 at 6:26 am
June 4th, 2006 at 8:11 pm
Just to add..
Mars Ravelo is dead already but I guess his heirs want to make money plain and simple thats why they let GMA 7 greedy execs bastardize the original concept.
What is galling is that Dominic Zapanta , that guy behind that similarly stupid Sugo teleserye is again given a chance directing this, So expect more hilarious bloopers – (If you failed to see Apo Abukay dangling on a rope in front of a blue screen then you missed one of all time low moments for a teledrama by GMA)
June 4th, 2006 at 11:16 pm

si marina kapareho nina little mermaid. dyesabel.
without those scenes, ma-realize nyo kaya yun?
June 5th, 2006 at 12:16 am
about the hero suit naman,
June 5th, 2006 at 12:17 am
Every year since Clark and Chloe have known each other they’ve shared a single kiss
Only one episode every season
Season one showed how they could have been if Lana wasn’t a factor
Season two showed Chloe’s descent but in ‘fever’ she read a letter to him that was personally handled by al/miles
Season three we learn she never gave Lionel anything on Clark and had been protecting him in metropolis. She breaks
away from her crush and starts to pull out on her own.
In ‘delete’ she -became- Lois lane by offering it up as a pen name attached to an article that was going to be published
if max didn’t die
In fact, George Max Taylor was the editor of the Daily Star (the first newspaper Lois and Clark wrote for in the
original serials)
In this version he was and could only be Chloe’s editor
Lois’ idol has always been Perry white
We learn in ‘Perry’ that Chloe’s idol has always been Perry
In ALL versions of the comics when Lois is matched up against Clark’s ex girlfriends, i.e., Lori and Lana, she is always
the dowdy unkempt homely one while the other girls are vixens
Lois is -never- allowed a romantic interest outside of Clark/Superman
Chloe has yet to get a boyfriend or even -guy friend- after Pete went ‘bye bye’
In some versions Lois and Lana were roommates in college, in some versions Lois and Lori were roommates in college
Lois Lane had a serial come out in the past written when she was an intern at the daily planet at the age of 15 titles “How
I Spent My Summer Vacation”
Chloe Sullivan, in the Smallville comics between season 1 and 2 was interning at the daily planet and in the comic had a
serial entitled “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”
Lois has been the youngest reporter at the daily planet
Chloe was the youngest reporter at the daily planet
even her ‘betrayal’ in s2 was a direct rip from the silver age comics where Lois wanted to prove once and for all that
Clark and Superman were the same person so she could blackmail him into marrying her
The first human to the Fortress of Solitude has always been Lois Lane
The first human to the Fortress of Solitude was Chloe
Lois —activates— Clark’s super hearing. He would not even know she is calling him, she may only be whispering and she
automatically triggers it
Chloe is the only one on the show who triggers Clark’s super hearing, all the other times he has to focus to use it
The first time, in ‘whisper’, it’s Chloe who activates it, her conversation with Lionel on her cell phone
In blank when he didn’t know how to even use his hearing she just had to whisper in Lex’s hallway to warn him
In thirst when Lana was biting her he had no idea she was in danger and simply heard her groans
Lois was and had always been the senior partner of their group, she was the most advanced reporter at the daily planet,
and she had two Pulitzer nominations by 28
I’m not sure (Erica Durance) Lois, the “muffin peddler” can hack that–
She’s already 20
No college
No high school diploma
No GED
No interest in journalism
Every interest in every other hot bod -but- Clark

Iba noon, iba ngayon. Dapat tayong sumunod sa pagbabago ng panahon. GMA 7′s CB is very well done.
June 5th, 2006 at 5:14 pm
June 5th, 2006 at 5:58 pm
June 5th, 2006 at 7:40 pm
though i would say may nagaya talaga sa smallville, i think captain barbell deserves naman to be appreciated. gaya ng ibang shows, well, let’s just wait and see.
basta ang importante, kanya kanyang taste lang naman yan. don’t watch it if you don’t want to.
i agree with manunulat. you have to follow certain patterns for the show or for the story. as the story goes on, siyempre don na lalagyan ng palabok. lalagyan ng konting twist. pero it should follow a certain pattern. lahat ng stories ganyan.
June 5th, 2006 at 7:46 pm
basta comment lang, wag maging bayolente. kanya kanyang opinyon lang. pero i would recommend manunulat’s comments.
astig!!!
salamat sa info pre!
June 6th, 2006 at 2:48 am

Captain Barbell 40.5% vs. Deal or No Deal (Pilot)27.8%
peace!
June 6th, 2006 at 10:31 pm
This Captain Barbel crap that they have on GMA now is a non original show, why? Coz the peoples behind the script of this crap has based the whole concept of the original story to the Superman storyline. To those who know these superheroes (CB & Supes) May vary the stories between each superheroes. Shame on you guys… You’re the ones up there getting large sums on your paycheck and all you can come up is this crap?! Multi-million costume cost and production. Goto? he he… Niff said.
June 7th, 2006 at 8:05 am

This is to inform everybody that the rest of the Philippine Island was in favor of all the KAPAMILYA’S tv shows except those places that belongs to the Greater Manila Areas.Try to survey or tour around the Philippines..ABS-CBN is still the most formidable and trusted media company wayback 1986 until now..So, to all detractors of the said tv station, we are very sorry..Your speculations and judgement are the cause of too much patronizing tv shows of the ABS rival station..learn to accept the truth that the no.1 station now and forever is still ABS-CBN.
June 8th, 2006 at 6:46 am
Excuse me KAPTEN SMOLBEL, but i couldnt let your comment about my boyfriend just pass. To remind your stupid little brain, this is what you said:
“What is galling is that Dominic Zapanta , that guy behind that similarly stupid Sugo teleserye is again given a chance directing this, So expect more hilarious bloopers – (If you failed to see Apo Abukay dangling on a rope in front of a blue screen then you missed one of all time low moments for a teledrama by GMA)”
First things first, you have absolutely no idea what the hell you’re talking about. My boyfriend gets all the good shows of GMA (Mulawin, Darna, Sugo, CB, etc) bec he can deliver well. all those shows were top-raters. what happened with the Apo Abukay incident was NOT HIS FAULT. it is not the director’s job to make sure that the effects were done on time. for your information, it was the PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS and the DIGITAL EFFECTS TEAM’S FAULT. they even received a memo for it. Now that you have the facts straight (bec obviously you dont) i would want to see YOU direct a show. i doubt if you could even come up with something worth watching bec since you’ve been trashing not only CB but my boyfriend too, it’s so darn obvious that you have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE. i pity you. Instead of bashing people and the hardwork they’ve put into creating shows, why dont you just shoot yourself and make this world a better place to live in by not existing. this world has enough trash. oh and by the way, his name aint dominic zapanta you loser. it’s DOMINIC ZAPATA.
June 8th, 2006 at 7:42 am
ang engot-engot mo naman!! ang tanga-tanga!!! kung ayaw mo sa captain barbell, e di wag kang manood… wag kang reklamo ng reklamo na akala mo ikaw lang ang nanonood!! are you some kind of an idiotic person? di mo ba alam na lahat ng pagbabago na ginawa sa captain barbell ay may pahintulot ng ravelo family??? sila din naman ang nag suggest sa ibang changes!! you make my head explode!!! and burst into anger!!! stupid!!! hindi lang naman ikaw ang nanonood at hindi lang naman ang kagustuhan mo ang dapat i-consider!!! there are billions of people out there and i bet they loved and accepted those changes!! by the way, for your information, captain barbell is #1 among all tv programs. kaya ang ibig-sabihin nun, gusto ng karamihan. kung ayaw mo, wala kang magagawa, the only permanent thing in life is CHANGE, that’s why there’s nothing you can do but accept it!!! ngayon, KUNG AYAW MO, E, DI WAG KANG MANOOD!!!! WAG KANG DADA NG DADA JAN NA PARANG KUNG SINO!!! EPAL!!!
June 8th, 2006 at 7:51 am
“Today, nothing in this world is original. Everything is inspired by something else.” – Ewan ko kung sino nagsabi. He he!
But it doesn’t give GMA a reason to copy Smallville’s storyline. Ibig sabihin nito, we have to innovate and make something original out of something copied.
“Without those scenes, ma-realize nyo kaya yun?
Oh please! Kung isa or dalawang eksena lang ang katulad, it can pass as mere “coincidence” and is forgivable. Pero kung sobrang dami na (like what people have cited here), it’s bad! The producers of Smallville can even sue GMA for intellectual property rights infringement kapag napanood nila ‘yun!
At please din, dun sa nagpo-point out na kamalian ng ibang shows just to make CB look good, it’s not working!
‘Yung “Moments of Love” nga may kagayang storyline ng movie a napanood ko sa Arirang (korean channel). kala siguro ng writer wala kaming cable! he he! (siningit ko lang just to make a point)
It’s not a matter of being a Kapamilya or Kapuso. Wala din sa ratings. Anyway, both networks naman are really doing it for the MONEY. That’s acceptable because it’s a BUSINESS after all! We’re all being used for their personal gains in exchange of “entertaining” us.
Tama! Lahat tayo may sari-sariling opinyon. But it doesn’t mean people will listen to your opinion or believe it lalo na kung hindi sinamahan ng logical explanation.
This is jus my opinion. You don’t have to believe it kung ayaw niyo. Thanks!
P.S.
Pansin niyo ba yung costume ni richard? It’s either malaki etits niya or may luslos siya sa sobrang laki at baba ng pundya! Ha ha ha!
June 8th, 2006 at 8:20 am
guys…. i think most of you missed the point of my article. i was expecting something original, something filipino. yes, even spiderman can be considered as following the superman pattern. but i don’t think they grabbed/ripped off scenes from superman. anyway… my point is… there’s so much more that filipinos can offer than just copying or following foreign shows/movies/storylines/scenes. mars ravelo is a good example of an creative, original and successful filipino talent. kaya nga dismayado ako na sobrang binago nila yung story ng cb tapos they even copied a foreign show (smallville). parang sampal yun (in my opinion) kay mars ravelo and other creative filipinos na i think can create a show that can be compared or can surpass the current captain barbell show. my point is not to insult and criticize but to critic and offer alternatives. after all… di ko naman habol ang pabagsakin ang gma7, cb or the people behind it.
once again, i, myself, do not care about ratings. i care about quality. i critic shows, movies, talents, etc based on their own merits and not based on fads, ratings and what other people think. after all this is MY BLOG.
ms krista, thank you for visiting here, kung ikaw nga yan. i hope you can direct direk dominic zapata here. hopefully, we can have a healthy, logical, constructive discourse here.
June 8th, 2006 at 9:01 am
here’s my second review/critic of captain barbell:
http://www.chikadora.com/2006/06/01/more-on-captain-barbell/
June 8th, 2006 at 9:51 pm
People are entitled to their own opinion so I wasnt upset about the comments about the show but what irked me was the comment about Dominic. They have been working for over 26 hours per day,6-7 days a week usually getting only 2 hours of sleep to come up with a show that is worth watching. Fact is, the network is very happy with CB. Added to that is that CB is THE HIGHEST RATING SHOW of today. Thank you for all your comments, i do tell my boyfriend about it but i hope people will THINK TWICE before trashing other people’s credibility. Moreover, if you don’t like CB, then i guess you arent the target market for the show. Simple as that. There are so many shows out there, why not watch them instead right? I think the CB-SMALLVILLE similarity ends in the second week if i am not mistaken. Cmon people, who does not try to copy others? If you do not copy other people’s styles, haircuts, etc., if you do not buy imitation, pirated dvds, what have you, then YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON WORTHY ENOUGH TO CRITICIZE AND CONDEMN THOSE WHO “COPY” OR “STEAL” not only shows but everything else. What a waste of time.
June 10th, 2006 at 4:53 am
Hindi lang ratings ang tinitingnan dito. Quality ng plot! Hindi ito pwedeng ipagmalaki sa ibang bansa coz this is a rip-off of smallvile/superman, terminator & spiderman. This is an insult to the Filipino viewers.
By the way, what happened to the original Captain Barbel story that Mars Ravelo made?
June 10th, 2006 at 5:03 am
June 10th, 2006 at 5:16 am
June 10th, 2006 at 8:36 am
mas may class…..
at least kung mga foreign tv shows ang sa ABS they have the right to air it, kasi binili nila ang rights… unlike GMA nanggaya without any permission….
June 10th, 2006 at 8:47 am
to all the PINOY
let’s support our own naman….
we have all the talents and potential…
let’s be real and true people…. true FILIPINOs
like big brother, even though its a foreign show,
we made our own version which has more Filipino Values
like helping the needy, giving importance to our family….
we can always make a differnce if we want to….
stop copying
BE 100% ORIGINAL….
to kapuso, be ORIGINAL naman…
how i wish……….
maybe ur the no.1 copycat in the Philippines….
duh…….
June 10th, 2006 at 8:57 am
kundi panggagaya….
if they want to make changes make it ORIGINAL naman….
hahahaha……
CHANGES are the only permanent thing in life…. yah right…..
but COPYING and STEALING, is that what you call changes????
shame on you….
buti pa ang butuing walang ningning, they make changes,
but did not COPY anybodies work…….
CHANGES is different from STEALING
now you get it????
GMA (G-awang M-A-nggagaya) (G-awang M-A-gnanakaw)
June 10th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
nakakatawa ung ibang nag comment dito… dahil ba kapuso kayo eh todo depensa na kayo sa CB… How can we be proud of this show? It’s a complete copy-cat of smallville… sa mga dumidepensa sa CB, napapanuod nyo ba ang Smallville? FYI, this is the story of the young superman… It’s a good tv series… panuorin nyo… teka baka pag napanuod nyo eh sabihin nyo ginaya nya ang CB… hahahah…
I agree with the writer of this comment…
Captain Barbell is an insult not only to Mars Ravello but also to the Filipino fans. GMA 7 should do something about this… They have to stop copying smallville or end the show… Common don’t fool your viewers… this is not an original story… NAKAW ITO!
June 11th, 2006 at 2:40 am
maganda naman ang captain barbell eh!
June 11th, 2006 at 8:39 am
hay nako!!! chika, what point are you talking about? lahat naman ng sinasabi mo e walang punto!!!
June 11th, 2006 at 10:03 am
June 11th, 2006 at 10:04 am
PINOY BIG BROTHER…nakakabobo!
Kung anu-ano task pinapagawa. Teleserye ng totoong buhay? ‘Lul!
June 11th, 2006 at 12:43 pm
HI TO SHIE AND WIE…..
oo nga no, mabuti pa ang ABS-CBN hindi nang-GAGAYA.
May bagong show daw ang ABS ngayon titled “U CAN DANCE”, now thats original….. TWO THUMBS UP for ABS CBN. By the way taga ABC 5 pala ako…….. hehehehe NEKNEK NYO!!! MGA UNGAS… LOKOHIN NYONG LELONG NYONG HYPOKRITO
June 12th, 2006 at 10:49 am
well i agree with you..
June 12th, 2006 at 10:59 am
at sa ngayon e malamang tuwang tuwa pa ang GMA dahil pinag-uusapan sila.. well.. GMA kung mangagaya kayo sana dapat e yung sure kayong ikagaganda pero kung ikasisira lng nung pinaggayahan nio dahil sa sobrang low ng technology nio at sobrang low profile nio e wag nalang… pero mejo nung nakapanood aq nung isang episode nun mejo natuwa aq… Ampanget kase eh… jologs..
June 12th, 2006 at 11:06 am

The show sucks! Darating ba si Lois Lane? bwahahaha!
June 13th, 2006 at 3:31 am
June 13th, 2006 at 5:10 pm

oh… so that’s what you think… tell me, how well do you know me??? sa bagay, i shouldn’t be surprised because from the very first letter, of the very first word, of the very first sentence of your article… i could already sense that you are the kind of person who judges other people without really even knowing them… tell me, do you watch captain barbell that often para masabi mo sa buong mundo na wala itong kwenta??? and how dare you tell me na makitid ang isip ko if you have never even met me?? chika, 00.1% palang ang alam mo tunkol sa akin… or even less than that… you still don’t know the 99.9% of me… or kahit kalahati man lang para ma-husgahan mo ako ng ganyan… wala kang kwenta… hope you’d finally realize what you’re talking about and whom you’re talking to… ok??!!!

chikadora, eto pa ha, HINDI TENGTENG kundi TENG lang… ok?? teng lang ang pangalan nia dun… i never recalled anybody in the cast calling him tengteng… teng dahil kinuha yun sa full name nia na potenciano… ok???
June 16th, 2006 at 12:07 am
oh well… maybe you’re just kind of deaf…
June 16th, 2006 at 2:02 am
First of all, I am a kapuso. I was a kapamilya before(before they started copying shows from all channels).
i think what the author were saying is true. i don’t like the storyline and Richard playing the Captain Barbell. There are more stars in GMA that should have had the role. But I understand that they must choose someone who is popular to compete on the rating battles. Second, I bet if they haven’t given Richard a show, they’ll be losing him. I don’t like the “barbanium” story either. It’s so immature. I also agree that they shouldn’t have given both roles(Capt. Barbell and Teng Teng) to Richard. However, there are some things that the author of this criticism wrote that I would like to disagree. One is on the costume. Come’on! The costume looks good(although it looks awkward when Richard’s wearing it). But if you just try to see the costume without Richards head popping above it, it looks good. Second, I think some of the CGs are improving.
That would be all….
June 16th, 2006 at 2:55 am
GMA7 is not a copycat!
haha…chardnick, i agree with you…
June 16th, 2006 at 10:11 am
chardnick,
the “very first letter, of the very first word, of the very first sentence of your article” is A… that tells you I judge people??? HAH! You make me laugh… you accuse me of judging you falsely and prematurely while you are doing the very same thing to me. You judge me because of my opinion? Well, that’s fine with me. I don’t care much for people who judge me just because I don’t agree with them. If you have been following my blog, which you don’t… you’ll know that I don’t judge people just because I don’t agree with them or like the people or shows they like. I respect everybody and their opinions.
Meanwhile, I judge you as being narrow-minded because instead of answering or addressing my critic and the issue I raised, you attacked me. And that, I think, shows that you did not even get my point or that you didn’t read my critic properly. Or maybe you did get my point and understood what I am trying to say but chose to disregard it.
And yes, I do watch it when I have the time and opportunity to do so. In fact, I like certain characters/actors such as Kit and Clarisse.
Sorry, if it’s Teng not TengTeng. Sensya na, tao lang po.
Also, I am not deaf, only very busy. Maybe you should have sarcastically (albeit unsuccessfully) asked me if I was blind since this blog is meant to be read not heard.
In the words of Marinara… PEACE TAYO!
June 16th, 2006 at 11:06 am
may contact ako sa warner bros., i’ll tell them about the captian barbell infringement! dapat itigil na yang pangongopya na yan! kakahiya.
June 17th, 2006 at 11:34 pm
hahaha… it seems that this conversation(?) won’t get anywhere… i won’t listen to you and you won’t listen to me… pero once again, i’m gonna try to clear things up… yung gusto ko lang namang sabihin sa unang comment ko is just as simple as this kung hindi mo maintindihan… “LEAVE CB ALONE” at “KUNG AYAW MO MANOOD E, DI WAG WAG KANG MANOOD AT WAG KANG MANG-INSULTO DAHIL MARAMING NAGMAMAHAL SA CB” and deaf, not because of reading my comment, but deaf because of saying teng’s name the wrong way kaya ang ibig sabihin nun, mali ang pagka-rinig mo sa tv… oh, by the way, sa third paragraph mo, you wrote there “captain barbelll” it’s supposed to be captain barbell with only 2 L’s and not 3…
hahaha… oh well… at ito pa ang isang gusto kong iparating sayo by means of the word “deaf”… ang gusto kong sabihin nun… is that you don’t know how to listen to others but yourself… that’s what i meant… ngayon, kung malawak ang isip mo, dapat naintindihan mo yun… ok?? hahaha… oh well… god bless you nalang…
June 17th, 2006 at 11:41 pm
kawawa ka naman… you don’t know what you’re talking about… haaaayyy…
June 17th, 2006 at 11:43 pm

June 17th, 2006 at 11:48 pm
oh… and i just want to say sorry to you chikadora, for the bad things that i’ve said about you… i was just kind of angry… but now, i know how to manage it…
i never thought na papansinin mo ang comment ko…
sabi nga ni idiotreadingthisarticle, lalo kang nag-mukang affected…
kawawa ka naman…
i pity you…
don’t you feel the same ches and idiotreadingthisarticle??
June 18th, 2006 at 1:07 am

June 20th, 2006 at 4:03 am
anyway… pahabol lang chikadora… sa last message(?) mo for me, meron kang sentence dun which says: “I don’t care much for people who judge me just because I don’t agree with them.” …
haha… you don’t care?? as in you don’t care?? really?? eh bakit ka nag-mukhang affected?? kawawa ka naman… you don’t really know what your talking about…
i really pity you… yup, i really do… you need help you know… (do you know what i mean) i think you’re becomming a bisy bakson (incase you don’t know, it’s a person who’s always busy going somewhere, anywhere but where he is… well, it doesn’t always literally means like that… but if you really are broad-minded, then i suppose you would understand what i mean…) haaaayyy… ei, ches!! do you agree with me?? haha…
June 20th, 2006 at 4:10 am
Cb a copycat..sa bgay hindi kayo nanood nang smallville…Here are some proofs…Lex is Patrick G..Luther is Richard G. Camille is the reporter friend of clark. The story line..obvious na obvious..Its so shameful.. Carrying the “pangarar”o thing happened in smallville..All of it is copied….
June 20th, 2006 at 5:39 am
chardnick, although di tayo magkasundo sa opinyon, rest assured i get your point: you love cb and you don’t think it’s a copycat. sana lang ma-gets mo rin ako.
SALAMAT!
June 20th, 2006 at 7:22 am
tangina chardnick! puro comment! haha…bungguin kita uli sa school…weeehhhh….
alam ko ang CB parang smallville, pero mas nauna namang isulat ang CB kaysa smallville…so basically, walang nanggaya (i’m not gonna say that smallville is copycat. what do they know about philippine stories?)…
and nobody can complain to mars ravelo, kasi hindi na siya buhay since 1988. punta ka sa libingan (hehe).
June 20th, 2006 at 7:30 am
chika, wala akong pinaniniwalaan sa article mo…pero ang fake muscles, yah i agree with you (hindi ata tama ang sukat kay richard)…
but did you know, even if CB is still being criticized by others, it stays on top of the television ratings, where it reached its highest rating – 44.9%
if you still don’t know about how tv ratings work, look it up in the internet: nielsen’s ratings or nielsen’s media research
June 20th, 2006 at 7:56 am
As a kid, I was able to watch Herbert Bautista play Teng-teng and morph into Captain Barbell (Edu Manzano). He was, for me, the Pinoy superhero (along with Darna). So I was anticipating GMA 7’s Captain Barbell.
June 21st, 2006 at 2:21 am
chika… kahit ilang beses ko pa piliting intindihin at basahin yung article mo… i still don’t think na may maganda at mahalaga kang rason… kung meron man… pls tell it to me dirrect to the point… kasi di ko talaga gets eh… nananahimik naman ang CB… wala naman clang ginagawa… tapos biglang kung ano-ano na yung sinasabi mo…
i’m just hurt a bit you know… and i’m sure marami pa ang nasaktan… si richard, if ever he read you article, what do you think would he say?? he wasn’t doing anything wrong and just doing his job… and yet, you guys are saying bad things about him… it’s not his fault… yah… maybe it’s true that whenever you’re at the top, people always try to pull you down… pero in this case, you guys are not pulling richard down, you’re PUSHing him… habang naka-talikod cya… pero, richard, it’s ok… a lot of people is always here to catch you… including me… kaya kung wala din naman kayong masabing mabuti… just PLS… LEAVE CB ALONE!!!!!!!
June 21st, 2006 at 2:31 am
by the way chika… ” i love CB and i think it’s not a copycat” – that’s not just my point… diba, malawak ang pag-iisip mo?? why can’t you get it?? sinabi ko pa nga dirrect to the point eh…
June 21st, 2006 at 8:53 am
chardnick,
“si richard, if ever he read you article, what do you think would he say?? he wasn’t doing anything wrong and just doing his job…” – yup! he’s just doing his job! in short, he’s doing it for the MONEY! not really for his fans. he’s doing this for fame and fortune. ganyan naman talaga sa showbiz.
pansin ko lang, pinipilosopo mo kasi masyado ang sinasabi ni chika. let’s all be rational here. hindi parang bata na nakikipag-away na pati sobrang letter L eh kino-correct pa ng todo.
“i’m just hurt a bit you know… and i’m sure marami pa ang nasaktan…” – truth hurts!
let’s reason out using our “minds” and not with our emotion.
June 21st, 2006 at 9:42 am
respetohan nmn.ilang n nga lng ang super hero ng pilipinas bkit nyo pa gnya ung smallville.ang kupal nmn nugn sumulat nyan.
biruin mo.
June 21st, 2006 at 10:03 am
dadj says:
May 31st, 2006 at 5:25 pm do you guys watch smallville?
if yes, you would agree that this series should be renamed as PINOY SMALLVILLE, sobrang gaya ung storyline kasi.. kainis, kala ko maganda —– anung PINOY SMALLVILLE?
SPOOF NG SMALLVILLE.kupal tlga ung gmwa nyan.
bkit mo binaboy c captain barbel? nainitndhan ko c chika… dahil ang konti konti na nga lng ng super hero ntin tas gnun pa ggwin nila?gnwal nilang spoof ni superman c captainbarbel e.kyo ba papayag kyong gnun?kunwari c darna spoof lng ni wonderwoman? payag ka ba?

June 22nd, 2006 at 4:14 pm
(Lana’s BF bugbugin Clark and puts the Kryptonite on his neck).
June 22nd, 2006 at 8:41 pm
CBisCool… Rhian Ramos ang real name niya. Her character’s name is Lea.
June 23rd, 2006 at 2:23 pm
Thanks Chika. I think she is really pretty. She is only 17 pala.
June 24th, 2006 at 3:29 am
hahaha… jamie… mind your own comment… you’re supposed to comment about the article and not the comment of others!!
i pity you for being ****** …
what did i say??? hahaha….
June 24th, 2006 at 3:31 am
hey, CBisCool… Rhian Ramos is also a good drummer…
her full name is Rhian Denise Ramos-Howell…
June 24th, 2006 at 4:58 am
They can’t argue with success of CB.
Naka 40.3% sya as of June 22, 2006, well in fact may pasok na mga bata.
What are they yakking at?? Captain Barbell is the Filipino version of Superman.
Look at Panday, it end up a natural death. Di nga nagpaalam.
And to think that Panday cant be deny na si FPJ lang ang Panday, sigaw ni Inday Susan Roces.
Panday was said to be equivalent to a 2 movies launched.
E anong nangyari?
The setting of the story is within the country pa rin.
It was a distant future of Manila 2100s ata un at hindi sa ibang planeta galing si CB.
I bet if Panday was aired by GMA, sisikat si FPJ!
June 25th, 2006 at 4:29 am
Carlos, thanks for the comment. mas lalo na yung sinabi mong “Si Superman galing Kryptonite, si CB sa future ng Manila.” good point!
chardnick, as usual, funny at WEIRD ang mga walang tigil na comment. di kasi maka-get over sa article ni chika eh!
and jamie, what the f**k are you babbling about?! “let’s reason out using our “minds†and not with our emotion.” haha…oo, tama naman ang sinabi mong may karapatan ang ibang taong mamigay ng opinyon. e bakit parang pinapa-shut up mo si chardnick at pilit na minamali ang kanyang mga sinabi. sa totoo lang, ikaw dapat ang sinasabihan na bigyan ng respeto ang sinasasabi ng iba.
June 26th, 2006 at 10:39 am
Drummer pa sya. naks. One reason to watch Captain Barbel….LEa I mean Rhian…heehehe. ok naman ang CB, I guess some part of the story look very similar to Smallville. I guess nakikita ng iba un.
June 26th, 2006 at 4:02 pm
June 27th, 2006 at 4:38 am
hahaha… are you stupid? comment ka ng comment wala ka naman palang alam sa CB?? captain barbell’s father is not just an ordinary human being… kasi pinag-experimentuhan na siya ni General kaya siya naging malakas at hindi natural lang!! wag nga kayong mag-salita tunkol sa CB kung wala naman kayong alam tunkol dun!!!
June 27th, 2006 at 4:42 am
hahaha… anonymous… talagang i can’t get over with this article… this article is non sense… dinag-dagan pa ng mga comments na wala namang kwenta… basta lang mang-insulto…
hahaha… life really gets weirder everyday!!!
June 27th, 2006 at 8:56 am
i don’t know if it’s kinda late to comment on this, but i just find the topic very interesting.
agree with the copying from smallville concept. super daming ginaya. sorry but i am a fan of smallville.
re IMPROVING vs MODIFYING, those are two different concept. hindi porket minodify mo ang isang bagay ay naglead na ito sa IMPROVEMENT nya. it may also mean DESTROYING the object, thus CHANGING IT.
CB, as most of the kapuso viewers here say, was the MODIFIED version of the original. but it does not necessarily follow na IMPROVED na sya. for one, very relative ng terms na yun. what may be IMPROVEMENT for you may not mean improvement for the others.
tanggapin na lang natin ang katotohanan, na lahat tayo ay may kanya kanyang opinion. and for me? CB does not meet my expectations. yun lang.
June 28th, 2006 at 2:29 am
June 28th, 2006 at 2:36 am
June 28th, 2006 at 4:08 am
truth is… cb immitates smallville. simula’t sapul pa lang lahat halos ng palabas ng gma ay immitation. majika nga me halong harry potter eh. hay naku, korny talaga. nakakasawa ang mga palabas. sana katulad na lang dati ang palabas sa tv. yung mga may sense. wala na kasing sense ngayon. its all about getting the money. about the ratings, i know how it is done. may meter na ikakabit sa tv mo para mamonitor ang pinapanood mo. but, this is the fact. may researcher na naghahanap ng taong kakabitan ng meter. what if kapuso ang researcher, then hindi nya pipiliin ang kapamilya viewer na kabitan ng meter. papakabitan nya ang kapuso meter. so paano naging fair yun? kaya malakas ang kapuso sa ratings kasi yung mga researcher ay kapuso din. hay naku buhay talaga. naglolokohan lang sila. dito nga sa lugar namin, pag kapamilya hindi kinakabitan, pero pag kapuso kabit agad ang meter. worst pa nito, pag may binigay na regalo ssabihin pa na bigay ng gma. hay naku buhay talaga.
June 28th, 2006 at 7:51 am
chardnick,
i thought you were supposed to comment on the article and not the comment of others? eh ikaw kaya ang nag-comment sa comment ko? yan ka na naman, kapag hindi mo masagot ang argumet ng iba, nililihis mo ang usapan. bakit hindi mo sagutin point by point ang mga sinasabi ko o ni chika at iba pang nagko-comment dito? kasi narrow minded ka! and i’m saying this base sa mga sinasabi mo dito. baka sabihin mo i don’t know you enough to judge you. what you write/type here shows your character and who you are!
and for ANONYMOUS,
look who’s talking about RESPECT?! after saying what th f**k? yan ba ang respect? and mind you, i’m not trying to shut chardnick up or anyone else for that matter.
compare niyo naman ang comment niyo kumpara sa comment ng iba dito. mas may sense. at parang iilan lang talaga ang nagsasabi ng good things about captain barbell. kasi gaya-gaya naman talaga ‘to sa smallville! almost lahat ng nag-comment dito yun ang sinasabi. and the RATINGS can’t cover that up!
June 29th, 2006 at 4:26 am
huh? jamie, wat the heck are you talking about??
“i thought you were supposed to comment on the article and not the comment of others? eh ikaw kaya ang nag-comment sa comment ko?”
and you shut the hell up!!! you don’t know anything, not a single thing about me!!! ayoko ng away, but it seems that you’re the one who’s looking for it!!! and one more thing, i wanna ask you this… how would you respect a person if the person doesn’t know how to respect not just you, but other people too?? we have different perspectives so mind your own… ;{ ang article ni chika ang kino-comment ko and not your comment… wag kang mangealam ok?? kasi kung gusto mo ng away, fine!!! but don’t say things which you are not sure of!!! you need psychological help…
bwahaha!!! asar talo!!! i hope di ka ma-karma despite all this…
god bless you nalang!!!
June 29th, 2006 at 4:39 am
jamie, eto pa… ano bang problema mo at iniinsulto mo ako kahit na wala ka namang alam tunkol sa ‘kin?? wala naman akong sinabing masama sa ‘yo and still you’re throwing words which are not so nice to hear (in this case, read)… ;{ alam mo, wag mo lang akong insultuhin (kasi wala ka namang karapatan dahil di mo naman ako kilala) ok na tayo… kahit anong sabihin mo, bahala ka!! basta wag ka lang mag-salita tunkol sa mga bagay na di mo alam… ikaw ba, alam mo ba kung ano ang mag pinag-sasabi mo? do you think you’re a perfect person, perfect enough to tell other people what their perspective must be… do you think you no longer commit mistakes, to tell other people what their mistakes are?? clear your own mess first ok?? perhaps you’re another bisy backson… bye!!
June 30th, 2006 at 9:46 am
Si Ricky davao parant si jonathan kasi nauubusan na ng pera pero di parin sinasabi sa pamilya. ano pa ba……yung school parang high school…..teenager din sila…heeheheh just kidding. ok naman yung kwento ng CB and starting to watch it pag I get a chance and interesting naman pero yung plot nga parang smallville. anyhow, just watch it and appreciate it.
July 1st, 2006 at 12:35 am
jamie, bahala ka na nga….
July 4th, 2006 at 5:45 am
for the first time na disappoint ako sa GMA! because im an avid fan of SMALLIVILLE. I’ve watched the whole season 1-5 ng Smallville… i have my own collection of its video… im proud to say na halos kabisado ko na lahat about Smallville, kasi nga po fan ako… and watching CB? whoa!!! very smallville!!! its really a ripoff. konting kopya na lang COPYCAT na talga… ok lang sana kung kumopya ng konti, kaya lang the thing is–”konti lang ang hindi ginaya”…. this is the comparison…. Smallville-CB…. clark kent-teng… lana lang-lea… lex luthor-levi villan… lionel-viel… kit-chloe… pete ross-bobby… they have 80-90% family background.. including the personality of the character themselves… meteor shower-bulalakaw… kalaban ni CB-meteor freaks yan… lahat ng kalaban ni clark kent dahil sa meteor shower na kasama nyang bumagsak sa earth–lahat ng kalaban ni CB dahil din sa bulalakaw na kasabay din nya bumagsak sa earth…. nga pla, ung mga kalaban ni CB hawig din sa kalaban ni Clark Kent…. ano pa ba? hmmmm…. the red pick-up truck… ung barn ni CB i think pinoy version ng “fortress of solitude” ni clark sa Kent Farm… ang pag tanggal ng doors ng mga sasakyan ni clark kakaiba! i guess signature nya yun… and nakita ko din sa kotse ni levi when CB saved him…. Villan mansion and Luthor mansion… pati ung mismong office ni lex sa mansion… pete ross ang unang nakaalam sa powers ni clark.. same as bobby sa CB… pati din pla musical scores halos smallville na…. haaay!! sad to say pero CB is really a smallville ripoff…. i know mataas ang rating ng CB… but i guess they don’t seem to care coz not all people knows smallville kaya lang what would the other network say?? specially studio 23 is airing Smallville which is under one umbrella of the other network… so sad!

I agree that they borrwed a lot of ideas from Superman and Smallville(Superman’s growing up pains as a young lad) and for this,I’m kinda disappointed.Obvious nman yun kasi.In fact, may pagka-Terminator rin coz part of the reason why pumunta sila sa past is to make sure that yung General na kalaban nla sa future ay di isisilang.Their main reason, of course,is to plea and protect the life of their son who will eventually grow up in the past as Teng.
Pero I must say aside from some flaws ok namn effects at action niya at kahit di original ang ibang ideas,nakaka-aliw pa rin especially sila Kit, Leah at Teng.I hope they will try to improve on it pa to make it a lot better pa.Sana lang next time they come up with a new series, they should be more creative and rely only on their own ideas para we can really be proud of it as pinoys.

And anyway, taga Cagayan de oro ako and I know this part of the world abs ang maga tao pero kami gma talaga.May advantage kasi abs dito kasi back in the 90s.we were all so used to watching abs.Kulelat pa kasi gma noon.Kami nagstart to watch ng gma only when eat bulaga was forced to transfer there.Tapos slowly but surely naging kapuso na kami at in time, gma started dominating the meaga manila and luzon area na rin.Pero pipol here sa abs lang nakatutok. They don’t have any idea what they’re missing kasi ang alam lang nila abs.Maski how many times na pinalitan ang noontime show ng dos,dun pa rin watch mga bobong tao dito.Kahit na una startruck, they think scq ang nauna dito sa pinas ng reality talent show na ganyan.Of course, yung ganyan started out sa labas pero dito sa atin gma ang una gumawa niyan. And while GMA is guilty of not being original, mas malala pa abs.Even yung sexbomb ng eat noon ginaya nila thru all their trying hard dancers that (dis)graced all their noontime shows.Sino bang dancers na-una magkanta at magchant?Sa eat yun.At abs puro money na lang. They have Game shows too many. Pero if ur wise, mas prefer mo GMA.Sori na ang sa nagsabi no. 1 ang abs sa country coz kung alam mo lang, yung ratings sa pinakavital na market eh nasa gma na kaya abs is down now with lower ratings and less advertisers like I read in a business section of a leading newspaper noon.
July 5th, 2006 at 4:51 am
i found out another thing…. the real name of clark kent (superman) is KALEL… tapos ngayon sa CB, real name nya ia AREL???? sounds the same ba? sobra na talaga…
July 5th, 2006 at 8:09 pm
sige angal pa kayong mga kapamilya!!!!
kung ako sa inyo pagbutihan nyo nalang shows nyo! para medyo tumaas-taas naman rating ng shows nyo!!!
pano kasi korny shows nyo!!!!
ayus-ayusin nyo buhay nyo mga kapamilya!!!!!!
July 6th, 2006 at 2:43 pm
I guess we are just pointing out the similarities. No need to say who is kapamilya or kapuso. I enjoy both channels and why need to bash each other. I would think na maganda na appreciate each channel. If you do not like one show then don’t watch it. Similarly, if you like one show then watch it. Pwede naman manood both ng ABS-CBN and GMA.
July 6th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
this is not about the battle of the networks.. its about captain barbell… kapuso din ako, unfortunately disappointed ako for the first time.. kasi fan ako ng smallville…sobrang gaya kasi…
nga pla, sa season 1 episode 7, same ang story sa bagong possible na kalaban si CB… as in same concept at magiging sexy din ung girl sa CB, na ginaya sa smallville…
for those smallville fans i know you i agree with me… for those not aware, I’m more than willing to lend my Smallville video collection just for you to find out.. tnx!

I’d rather watch spoofs. At least they’re funny. Oh and by the way, Superman had no fake muscles in his costume. Tee hee!
July 11th, 2006 at 1:05 pm
okay guys… GMA’s Captain Barbell IS NOT REALLY an Insult to Filipino Creativity…
but yes, it makes some sense na talagang may part na ginaya sa Smallville.
Prob is with the audience. kahit naman kc “obvoius” na ung “panggagaya”, binibili pa rin.
July 12th, 2006 at 4:59 am

July 31st, 2006 at 1:50 pm
Your complaints about the “reworking” of Captain Barbell is not only understandable, it is justified.
I could not even imagine people reinventing Superman’s origin (as this will surely be the beginning of the next world war in fandom). I wish that Filipino creative tanks would be as respectful of our beloved komiks characters’ mythos too.
Having said these, though, I am enjoying GMA’s version of Captain Barbell and I watch it devotedly.
July 31st, 2006 at 9:54 pm
You’re right CouchPotato,, but it seems some people don’t understand that in every story that written on script needed a pattern… Like me I’m a writter BEFORE and as a writter i’m not copycating the original story, just i need a pattern to or from where i begin or how i end the story…
Well i guess not…
Bolywood is a copy from HOLYWOOD at un ay matatagpuan sa India..
i like captain barbell kaya until now dpa kami nakakabitan ng GMA 7 here sa Dubai…
Chow…

August 6th, 2006 at 11:49 pm
I agree and disagree kay jimsky….
—-> ang ABS-CBN ang MAS PINAPANOOD NG MAS MARAMING PILIPINO SAAN MAN SA MUNDO… May tama ka. PERO FILIPINO from other country like me and also lot of my friends had NO CHOICE kundi manood ng TFC, you know why? dahil hindi pa gaano kaestablished ang GMA network sa ibat ibang bansa like here.. it means kung may choice lang kami no need to think TWICE pra palitan ang TFC but AS OF NOW magtitiis kami sa 5 video channels ng ABS-CBN TFC.
bye
August 8th, 2006 at 3:48 am
DOLPHY, GLORIA ROMERO,SUSAN ROCES, VILMA,SHARON, MARICEL, EDU, AGA ,CESAR,CHRISTOPHER de LEON (KAPAMILYA na cya kung d mo pa alam, he’s doing a teleserye with bea and john lloyd”MAGING SINO KA MAN”…tagasan ngapala cla?? kanino mo itatapat???? kay eddie guttierez, eddie garcia(sad to say kapuso cla) cno paba?? richard gomez?? o kay richard at angel?? hahaha….
saka bat mo tinatanong kung pare ako o mare? discrimination ba ito??? magagalit c raymond guttierez nyan!!!…hahaha..
August 11th, 2006 at 8:58 pm

ABS-CBN (PSE: ABS) (Alto Broadcasting System-Chronicle Broadcasting Network) is the largest Media company in the Philippines. It was founded on October 23, 1953, becoming Asia’s first commercial television broadcaster. It is a part of the Lopez Group of Companies. The network’s main broadcast facilities are located at the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center at Sgt. Esguerra Ave., Mother Ignacia St., Diliman, Quezon City. Other facilities and offices are located all over the country.
History
The company traces its beginnings to June 13, 1946, when James Lindenberg, an American engineer also known as the father of Philippine Television, established the Bolinao Electronics Corporation (BEC), which specialized in assembling transmitters. Realizing the potential of television in the country, he was the first to apply for a license in Congress to estabish a television station in 1949, which was granted a year later. By then, due to the scarcity of raw materials and import controls imposed that time, BEC was compelled to branch into radio broadcasting instead.
In 1952, Judge Antonio Quirino, brother of then-President Elpidio Quirino (1890-1956) who was also looking to set up a television station, bought 70% of BEC and had it renamed to Alto Broadcasting System (ABS). Lindenberg, however, remained as part-owner and served as general manager of the station. In 1953 DZAQ-TV 3 (the “AQ” part stands for Antonio Quirino) was introduced as the country’s first television channel and made its first broadcast on October 23, 1953.
In April 1958, Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN, with the name “Chronicle” coming from The Manila Chronicle), a radio network established in 1956 by sibling businessmen Eugenio H. Lopez Sr. (1901-1975) and Vice-President Fernando H. Lopez (1904-1993), branched into television broadcasting, and bought ABS from Quirino in the same year with both signing a MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) on a table napkin. Also in the same table napkin, the logo was also sketched.
ABS-CBN: The Star Network was the network’s proud slogan as it emerged to the top spot in 6 months of its renewed operationsThe network grew, and by 1961, its stations DZAQ-TV 3 and DZXL-TV 9 could be received anywhere in the country from a number of affiliates. February 1, 1967 marked the formal merger of ABS and CBN under the name “ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation”. The channel brought many firsts to the Philippines, including color television service (in 1966 when they displayed the Sarimanok logo, showed full-color programs such as Buhay Artista, Wild Wild West, The Nilda-Nestor Show, Tawag ng Tanghalan, Cine Filipino and 70′s top rating Your Evening With Pilita ), conducted the first marathon coverage of the country’s elections through Halalan ’67, inaugurated Asia’s biggest and best-equipped broadcast complex (1968), the first live transmission of a world news event via satellite (the moon landing in 1969) and the coverage of the collapse of the Ruby Tower in Manila via microwave transmission from a multi-cam outside broadcast van (OB Van). Also, mid-1970, ABS-CBN increased color programming to eight hours a day, and is the only TV network in color.
In September 21, 1972, the government of Ferdinand Marcos closed down any non-state broadcast services. ABS-CBN went off the air, as its studios were taken over by networks run by presidential crony Roberto Benedicto. The ABS-CBN Broadcast Center became the home of state-run TV stations Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation (BBC Channel 2), Government Television (GTV Channel 4) and Kanlaon Broadcasting System (KBS Channel 9, formerly known as DZXL-TV 9 of CBN). Later on, the company was seized from the Lopez family, and then ABS-CBN president Eugenio Lopez Jr. was imprisoned. On 1980, channel 2 together with channels 9 and 13 was moved to the newly built “Broadcast City” in Diliman, Quezon City. When Marcos was deposed in 1986, the network was sequestered and returned to the Lopezes. The network went back on the air on September the same year. Also in 1986, ABS-CBN was launched as the “The Star Network: Ang Pagbabalik Ng Bituin” which means “The Return of the Star” in English. However, the network was vacillating, ranking last among the country’s five TV stations and suffering huge losses. On 1988, within six months of renewed operations and the bringing in of returning ABS-CBN executive Freddie Garcia, it rose from the least-watched to the most-watched television network, and has dominated the ratings for sixteen years now. Also in 1988, the network ventured in to satellite broadcasting, furthering its reach through “Bridges On The Air.”
By 1990, the company had already recovered. ABS-CBN programs consistently drew large audience shares, averaging 40-50% in Metro Manila.
June of 1992 was also a significant year for ABS-CBN as it went public, opening PHP15 a share, the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group was established and began producing programs for the local audience, signed a historic lease with PanAmSat and switched from taped international telecasts to live satellite feeds.
One of the highlights in ABS-CBN’s career is when it got the exclusive Philippine broadcast rights for the 1992 Olympic in Barcelona, Spain, and the 1994 Miss Universe pageant held in the Philippines. In 1999, ABS-CBN solidified its grip on the top spot as the teleserye Esperanza posts rating of 58%, the highest recorded in history, sustaining their reputation as the country’s most-watched network.

First TV of Chance: What’s My Living? (1958)
First Provincial TV Station: DYCB-TV Channel 3 (June 14, 1961)
First TV Soap Opera: Hiwaga Sa Bahay Na Bato (1962)

[edit]
Post-Marcos period
ABS-CBN’s existing broadcast center, constructed in the early 1970s, included eight sound stage/production studios and control rooms, a master control room, editing and technical terminal areas, as well as offices and support facilities for network television and provincial AM and FM radio. In 1973, shortly after its construction, the Marcos’ regime took over the facility when martial law was declared. As a result, facility maintenance was neglected and the need to upgrade was ignored for more than 13 years. Even after democracy was restored in 1986, ABS-CBN’s highest priority was on programming and major investment in its facility continued to be deferred.

Expansion
The slogan of the ABS-CBN in 2005Aside from its flagship terrestrial network ABS-CBN 2 Manila, ABS-CBN is now being aired to many predominantly Filipino enclaves in the United States, Europe, Australia and other major countries via The Filipino Channel or TFC. The network has also diversified into film (Star Cinema – ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc.), music recording (Star Records), publishing (ABS-CBN Publishing), and interactive media (ABS-CBN Interactive).
The network has also introduced its second terrestrial channel, Studio 23 (UHF band), as well as cable channels MYX (a music channel), ABS-CBN News Channel (a cable news channel), CinemaOne Global and CinenaOne (movie cable channel), the Lifestyle Network (home and lifestyle channel), Pinoy Central TV (regionally produced shows) and Hero (the country’s first Tagalog-dubbed anime channel). The network’s radio stations include DWRR 101.9 (FM-Manila) and DZMM 630-khz (AM-Manila).
ABS-CBN has established regional stations and news bureaus to handle operations in different areas throughout the Philippines. It also broadcasts to locations all over the world via The Filipino Channel, managed by ABS-CBN International. Shows are also available for live viewing and subscription via the Internet through ABS-CBN Interactive’s ABS-CBNNow! service.
ABS-CBN affirms its social responsibility in its slogan, “In the Service of the Filipino”, through the establishment of the ABS-CBN Foundation. Through multimedia, the foundation has delivered E-TV (Educational Television) VCDs to hundreds of public schools in the country that benefitted students. The foundation is also the umbrella organization of such foundations such as the Knowledge Channel (KCh) Foundation, Bantay Bata (Children’s Watch), Bantay Kalikasan (Environment Watch), and ABS-CBN Bayan Foundation.
In 2003, during the television station’s 50th anniversary, ABS-CBN launched its present slogan, “Kapamilya” (literally means “a member of the family”), which it believes reaffirms the network’s commitment to quality programming that will foster Filipino moral values, which is dominant and characterized in a typical Filipino family.
On 22 January 2006, ABS-CBN’s broadcast of Solar Sports’ “Hataw Pacquiao, Laban ng Bayan” registered the second biggest number of viewers of a TV event in Philippine history as AGB Nielsen Media Research showed that 2.073 million households (5.261 million individuals) watched the Pacquiao-Morales rematch compared to “Rosalinda”‘s 1.486 million households (3.787 million individuals) of its July 13, 2000 episode (Rosalinda is a Mexican telenovela purchased by ABS-CBN). It also registered the highest audience share of 79.5% against Rosalinda’s 78.3%. However, Rosalinda remains as the highest rated TV show in Philippine TV history, with 68.9% compared to the 59.2% of the said rematch. However, both shows were not ABS-CBN-made productions. Based on the latest Pulse Asia Survey, ABS-CBN News was the most trusted News Station garnering 68 points against its rival network GMA only garnering 60 points.

Wowowee tragedy
Main article: PhilSports Arena stampede
At around 6 a.m. on February 4, 2006, at least 79 people were trampled to death and around 208 were injured when a stampede broke out at ULTRA stadium in Pasig City, where the first anniversary celebration of Wowowee (variety show) would be held at noon. The crush began when the organizers of the show began handing out tickets to people in the crowd, many of whom had been camping outside the stadium for days.
Some sources indicate that the thousands of people lining up at the stadium’s entrance panicked when someone shouted that there was a bomb. Pasig City Mayor Vicente Eusebio said that the producers and organizers may be at fault for exceeding the stadium’s capacity limit, especially with the number of people who were present in the area to watch the how. Philippine National Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon blamed poor organization of the event for the tragedy.
Party-list representatives labeled the tragedy as a reflection of the Philippines “poor economy” and that it showed how desperate Filipinos have become in their quest to gain a better life. ABS-CBN has already taken full responsibility and conducted all necessary measures to help aid the families of the victims of the unexpected mayhem. ABS-CBN Chairman & CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III has already extended his personal condolences to the families of the fatalities and has assured immediate assistance to all of them.
ABS-CBN relaunched the show under the same title on March 11, 2006, despite mixed reviews [1].

Competition
Pinoy Big Brother
The facade of the Big Brother House
Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal
ABS-CBN lost a large chunk of its audience in 1996 when RPN-9 introduced the “telenovelas,” or dubbed soap operas from Latin American countries. The succeeding year, the company regained its audience after it changed its primetime schedule by adding Filipino-produced soap operas.
In mid-2004, the company made a smaller investment when GMA Network gained audience share in Mega Manila, although ABS-CBN retained its hegemony on other provinces and overseas. The network signed a contract with Endemol to gain rights of its franchise of Big Brother. Since the rights were expensive, the company launched a series of promotions in the first and second quarter of 2005. In August 2005, Pinoy Big Brother was aired, which became a hit which caused ABS-CBN to license more programs from Endemol such as Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal and Pinoy Dream Academy.

News & Current Affairs
Bandila, the recently launched late-evening news program of ABS-CBNABS-CBN pioneered the Philippine Broadcast Industry. After EDSA Revolution, the network was first to air a newscast and current affairs show namely TV Patrol and Probe. For almost 17 years, the network’s news organization dominated the industry until its closest rival got the coveted spot. The network also lost its leadership because it suffered from credibility issues, including its alleged partiality in various political issues and the involvement of its former news anchors and network Chairman in the political arena.
At present, the news organization is headed by former CNN Jakarta and Manila Bureau Chief Maria Ressa. Ressa introduced major organizational changes and reforms, including the drafting of Code of Ethics that is very much benchmarked on international standards. The new Code of Ethics served as the Bible of all the members of the news organization.
ABS-CBN also owns the ABS-CBN News Channel, the only local 24-hour news channel in the Philippines.

Republic Broadcasting System
GMA Network traces its origin to March 1, 1950, when American war correspondent Robert “Uncle Bob” Stewart (1918-2006) sent his first radio transmission through his AM station at the fourth floor of the Calvo Building in Escolta, Manila. Known then as the Republic Broadcasting System, the station used the call sign DZBB. The station went on to cover events such as President Ramon Magsaysay’s sudden death, the eruption of Mt. Hibok-Hibok on March 17, 1957 and the various elections in the country. DZBB became the first radio station in the country to use the telephone patch for live interviews. The station also broadcasted the forerunner of today’s political satire programs, Kwentong Kutsero and glued audiences to the amateur radio contest, Tawag ng Tanghalan. A decade after the radio station’s launch, the Stewarts ventured into Television. Using two cameras and a surplus transmitter, RBS Channel 7, the Philippines’ third television station, started airing on October 29, 1961. While the station’s programming were mostly canned shows from the United States, RBS did produce local programming like Uncle Bob’s Lucky Seven Club, Dance Time with Chito and various news programs. During the establishment of the television station, RBS was always in the red. It was always at a distance from the larger and better funded networks. But it did not stop the company to start broadcasting in Cebu in 1963.
[edit]
GMA Radio-Television Arts
GMA Radio-Television Arts logo used from 1979 to 1992.In the 1970s, during the Martial Law era, foreign citizens and corporations were disallowed from owning media outlets in the country. Stewart and the American Broadcasting Corporation, who owned a quarter of the company, was forced to cede majority control to Gilberto Duavit, a Malacañang official, Menardo Jimenez and Felipe Gozon. Through the acquisition, the station now was able to broadcast in color with a seven million peso credit line. The station also changed its name to GMA, or Greater Manila Area, the station’s initial coverage area, although RBS remained its corporate name for years to come. But some people speculated that President Ferdinand Marcos changed its name due of being the one of the television networks that existed before the Martial Law. When the smoke cleared, viewers had channels two, nine and thirteen, ran by Benedicto, four, which belonged to the Ministry of Information, and Duavit’s.
When Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino, Jr., a senator who strongly opposed the Marcos administration, was assassinated on August 21, 1983, it was a small item on television news. During his historic funeral procession, GMA gave ten seconds of airtime. With the assassination of Aquino, the iron grip that the Marcos administration had on television began to slip, as GMA broadcasted the funeral, the only station to do so. In 1984, Imee Marcos, daughter of Ferdinand Marcos, attempted to takeover GMA, just as she did with the Benedictos. However, she was foiled by GMA executives, Menardo Jimenez and Felipe Gozon. Stewart left the Philippines for good as he was utterly disappointed with the Marcos move. GMA was also instrumental during the years preceding the People Power Revolution. The network was the first to air a television interview with Corazon Aquino, and when she later announced that she would run for the presidency if she receives one million signatures. And, much later, in 1986, the network is also the first to report that Fidel Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile broke away from the Marcos administration.
When democracy in the Philippines was restored in the People Power Revolution in 1986, television stations began to air, some with their original owners. ABS-CBN also began broadcasting, and in six months, took over the ratings, which ultimately started its hold on local broadcasting for years to come. The political instability of the country also added to the station’s burden, when soldiers stormed into the studios for two days in a part of coup attempt to topple then President, Corazon Aquino. In 1987, it opened its high-end live studio, the Broadway Centrum, boosting its local programming, and inagurated its 77-footTower of Power, the tallest man-made structure in the country in 1988.
[edit]
The Rainbow Network
Rainbow Network was the network’s branding until 2002, when it changed its slogan and logo.International reach became GMA’s target in the 1990s, which it began through the Rainbow Satellite launched on April 30, 1992. Through its relay stations, GMA programs were seen across the archipelago and Southeast Asia. GMA has started airing in 60 American cities and parts of South America through the International Channel Network. GMA was also the official broadcaster of the 1995 World Youth Day, which was the last visit of Pope John Paul II to the country. During the same year, GMA launched a UHF channel, Citynet 27, several new shows (among them were Bubble Gang and Startalk, now the longest-running shows on TV), and the news program, Saksi with Mike Enriquez and Karen Davila. At the same time, two popular TV shows, Eat Bulaga and Okay Ka Fairy Ko began broadcasting on GMA after airing for sometime in ABS-CBN. In 1996, GMA formally changed its corporate name to GMA Network Incorporated. The acronym was also changed to Global Media Arts. GMA was the first Philippine broadcaster to win the Peabody Award for Investigative Journalism in 1999. Later, Citynet 27 becomes EMC, the first locally programmed music video channel. It later became Channel [V] Philippines when it struck an agreement with Star TV to localize the said music channel. Channel [V], however, ceased operations due to the conflict of interest between the owners of GMA, which was then being considered by PLDT, who handles MTV Philippines through Nation Broadcasting Corporation, one of its subsidiaries. GMA was also the official Philippine network for the Global Millenium Day Broadcast in 2000.
[edit]
The Kapuso Network
The Kapuso logo with its starsIn 2002, the GMA Network engaged in a rebranding program in line with its goal to become the leader in providing local news and entertainment. It changed its logo and slogans to reflect its new corporate identity but still incorporating its identity as the “Rainbow Network”. The new brand consisted of a red, stylized heart logo, with a band of different colors representing the rainbow. In tune with the new logo, the new slogan was “Kapuso, Anumang Kulay ng Buhay” (“One in Heart, Regardless of the Colors of Life”). In 2003, Saksi won the New York Festival Gold Medal for best newscast, the first Philippine newscast to do so. This, and the Peabody Award in 1999, earned GMA a House of Representatives commendation in 2003.
In 2003, GMA Network, withdrawn its membership from the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP), after incidents involving host Rosanna Roces, alleged commercial overloading and interfering when news anchor Mike Enriquez. aired his complaints over radio against Lopez-owned cable firm SkyCable’s distortion of GMA’s signal on its system, and a lost videotape containing evidence that the cable firm had violated the rule on soliciting ads for cable TV.
Changes were apparent in the programming of the network. The production of various shows were up to par with its rival network, ABS-CBN. Extra Challenge started to lead the game. And with launch of the telefantasya Mulawin in 2004, GMA finally gained a rating advantage in Mega Manila over ABS-CBN. By the end of 2004, GMA was one of the most profitable companies in the country and the No.1 TV Station. During the same year, GMA launched a new primetime news program, 24 Oras. In 2005, GMA began broadcast of Mars Ravelo’s Darna, a classic comic book character among Filipinos which became a big hit, with its ratings being the highest ever for a pilot episode of 47.7% and this also made it the First Fantaserye to be in the 50′s Specifically 52.2% on its Fourth day, followed by “Encantadia†at 47.2 percent . Other primetime telefantasyas like Mulawin (2004) and Sugo (2005) also maintained the network’s lead in its Mega Manila ratings during the year. The company’s subsidiary, Citynet Inc., also signed a co-production and blocktime agreement with Zoe Broadcasting, allowing the GMA Network with another platform to showcase its programming and talents. In November 11, 2005, ZOE Broadcasting Network’s VHF station, DZOE-TV Channel 11, went on the air as QTV (Quality TeleVision), and broadcasts show that primarily targets women audiences. QTV’s news programs share the same resources of GMA News and Public Affairs, while some programs are produced by Citynet Inc. Also in 2005, GMA made another milestone in Philippine television, when it won the Asian Television Awards’ Best Terrestrial Television Station, besting MBC of Korea and Mediacorp Channel 5 of Singapore.
In early 2006, Debate, a late-night public affairs program, won the Bronze Medal in the New York Festivals. The network maintained its primetime ratings re-formatting shows Extra Challenge and Encantadia (which was succeeded by sequels Etheria and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas), and by the localized versions of the Korean series Jewel in the Palace and My Name is Kim Sam Soon. The network was also praised on its coverage of the Wowowee stampede incident by various local publications. In an exclusive interview, a reprehensive Mike Enriquez also interviewed embattled Philippine President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the first time since the lifting the State of National Emergency, which the network allowed other stations to air without prior consent. At the end of the interview, the President praised the network for its news coverage, hinting that other media outfits to do the same (probably referring to the local newspaper, The Daily Tribune). In April, the founder of the network, Robert “Uncle Bob” Stewart died in the United States. During the Everest climbing season the same year, GMA supported climber Romi Garduce, the third Filipino to reach the summit of Mt. Everest in only three days. The network is one of the first local companies to produce an iMax film, with the opening of the San Miguel-Coca-Cola iMax Theatre in SM’s Mall of Asia.

The GMA Network Center
Main article: GMA Network Center
GMA Network CenterGMA inaugurated its new GMA Network Center facility on June 14, 2000 as part of the kick-off of its year-round celebration of its 50th anniversary. The GMA Network Center supports GMA’s thrusts towards digitalization and media convergence. While the first phase of the project has already been completed with the construction of the 17-storey high-rise, the center has an option to upgrade the older, existing facilities in the GMA compound, as originally planned. The network center is equipped with MARC (Multiple Automated Recorder Cassette) and a Broadcast Automation System that allows the network to manage live feeds and international feeds that will be carried out to GMA Pinoy TV subscribers around the world. The GMA compound has five studios, three of which are in the new network center, and two in the older structures. The Center serves as the Corporate Headquarters for the network and also houses the radio station and the newsroom.

Branding of the GMA Network
[edit]
Evolution of GMA Network logos
Main article: GMA Network logos
GMA Network has used a number of logos throughout its history especially when the station was acquired by Gozon, Jimenez and Duavit in the 1970′s. In the 1980′s, the network first used it slogan, “Where You Belong”, which it would use for two decades. For the first time in 1989, the network identified itself as the “Rainbow Network,” after the colors of the rainbow. Throughout the 1990′s, the network refined the logo before having it replaced by the its current logo in 2002. After a huge marketing campaign, and improved ratings, the new logo is now one of the most recognizable in the country.
August 18th, 2006 at 6:14 am
In 1953 DZAQ-TV 3 (the “AQ†part stands for Antonio Quirino) was introduced as the country’s first television channel and made its first broadcast on October 23, 1953.
In April 1958, Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN, with the name “Chronicle†coming from The Manila Chronicle), a radio network established in 1956 by sibling businessmen Eugenio H. Lopez Sr. (1901-1975) and Vice-President Fernando H. Lopez (1904-1993), branched into television broadcasting, and bought ABS from Quirino in the same year with both signing a MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) on a table napkin. Also in the same table napkin, the logo was also sketched.

to all kapuso,
August 22nd, 2006 at 7:25 am
the captain barbell series is a bit of a turn off to some people who expected a bit more out of the said pinoy superhero. medyo nagaya nga ang smallville. well, sayang naman kasi ang mga magandang side ng show. the costumes, the talented stars, the director/s and even the soundtrack. nahahatak kasi ng mga bad comments. i heard na iisa lang ang nagdirek ata nito at ng sugo. i’m not a big fan of sugo but i dare say that that was a true filipino fantaserye. sana lang matapos na ung panggagaya sa ibang shows/movies. sayang mukhang promising pa naman. the title of the show pa lang kasi may hatak na.
August 23rd, 2006 at 12:44 am
im not a kapuso but i watched one of the episodes of captain barbell, i was disappointed nung napanood ko yung episode na na hospital si CB napa tiwi n lng ako dahil di na yun bago dahil kinopya rin nila yun. Kung napanood niyo na ang SUPERMAN RETURNS you will know what im talking about. And when it comes to ratings of the show, hindi ako naniniwala dun dahil wala pa exact explanation kung paano talaga yun nakukuha. Im not saying this because im a kapamilya, naiinis lng talaga ako s mga gaya-gaya dyan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23rd, 2006 at 3:40 am
clark kent, i agree with you regarding issues about captain barbel. may kinopya nga…though hindi ako nanonood noon. pero sana isipin mo na hindi lang gma ang gaya-gaya kundi isang network jan to the point na yung pumapatok sa shows sa ibang channels pinapatay nila…look at history…marimar, betty la fea, who wants to be a millionaire, shall we dance, etc…etc… think if the shows of abs-cbn are all original
August 23rd, 2006 at 9:18 pm
I cant wait to see it in TFC…. Malamang Sobrang insulto aabuti nila…

tigilan nyo na pagaaway tungkol sa captain barbell, pwede ba? pagusapan nyo pa kung paano aasenso ang buhay ng pilipino. it’s quite true, CB is a rip-off of smallville pero everyone is entitled to their own thinking. saka lahat naman ng networks manggagaya pero i can say ABS is the best copycat!!! basta, mabuhay ang pilipino.
September 16th, 2006 at 5:02 am
smallville_guy, yes, i can’t deny CB is a smallville rip-off… but here’s my point amd i have been repeating this over and over again… IF YOU DON’T WANT TO WATCH CB, THEN DON’T!!! AND LEAVE IT ALONE!!! people loves it and theres nothing you can do about it.

graveh inabangan ko talaga ang first opening ng capt barbel unfortunately i was so disapointed kc sa simula palang smallvile na ang dating eh, pati mga cast halos ginaya na nakakauta tuloy panoorin…kc parang inuulit ko lang panoorin ang smallvile in tagalog Ver. sayang wala na ba silang utak o tamad mag isip at kailangan pang manggaya? para kc namumulot lang sila ng pinagsawaan ng story book. sobrang inutil naman ng writer ng CAPTAIN BARBELL…nakakarimarim WHAT A WASTE of money pa sa pambayad sa mga writer na gumawa nyan, magkalkal na lang kamote
September 26th, 2006 at 9:03 pm
actually, medyo nakakainis yung mga writers ng capt. barbell kasi hindi lang smallville ang ninakawan ng story. may mga episodes sila na ginaya lang sa spiderman and batman forever. yung episode na guest si ruffa mae and marissa tapos yung pag-uusap ni teng and nung kinagisnang lolo nya before he was killed. inis na inis ako ‘nun kasi fan ako ni batman and spiderman.

to dubai rulez, you’re not the sharpest tool in the toolbox are you? ang ibig sabihin ng crab mentality e hinihila mo yung tao pababa kasi sila umaasenso tapos ikaw hindi. tama lang ‘yung pi-nost ko na ginaya ng mga writers ‘yung story ng batman forever and smallville kasi napanoood ko ‘yung mga ‘yon. mali ka rin sa sinasabi mo na ayaw namin sa mga magagaling na tao. kabaligtaran pa nga, we’re proud sa mga taong nakakagawa ng ingay, both local and international, kasi they bring honor sa bansa natin. ang ayaw lang namin e yung mga taong nagmamagaling, nagpi-pretend na may laman ang utak may masabi lang pero ‘pag binasa mo ‘yung post, suntok sa buwan ang logic. tamaan na ‘yung mga natamaan.
October 1st, 2006 at 4:43 am
isa pa pala, nanonood ako ng captain barbell kasi umaasa pa rin ako na makawala sila sa image ng smallville at umaasa din ako na hindi na ulit gagayahin ‘yung takbo ng story ng iba pang superheroes na nakita sa tv or sa big screen. i’m actually impressed sa mga naunang tele-fantasies ng kapuso network like mulawin, encantadia/etheria, sugo, darna, etc. kasi puro original ang script at hindi ginaya lang that’s why i was dissapointed ‘nung mapanood ko ‘yung ilang episodes ng capt. barbell kasi obvious na talagang may pinagkopyahan. in case you didn’t know, matatalino ang mga filipino viewers kaya nalalaman nila kung may kinopyang story or hindi. we are after the quality and the originality of the story, that’s what made a lot of gma fantaseryes so successful, like encantadia. admirable ang loyalty mo sa gma dahil ayaw mong masasabihan ng masama ang shows nila, like what’s happening now with capt. barbell, i also happen to be a loyal kapuso fan, and i will defend a kapuso show kung sinisiraan sya basta original ang story and concept, pero as a viewer, i’m also entitled to make MY own opinions and to make constructive criticisms dahil i’m sure, ‘dun bini-base ng kahit na anong network stations ang mga projects nila. what you said on your earlier posts are very unfair and biased. andun na ‘ko, mahirap maging writer, mahirap gumawa ng story out of thin air, but guess what, that’s why they’re there! they’re getting paid to ‘create’ not to ‘copy’ kaya maraming mga tao ang nagre-react. now before ka mag-reply to this post, pakaisipin mo munang mabuti ‘yung pi-nost ko. hindi ko sinisiraan ang actors and actresses ng capt. barbell, it’s staff and its network. i’m only posting my opinions, hoping na may makabasang writer ng capt. barbell at malaman nila maraming ayaw sa story na kopya lang.

What do you mean ninakawan? ano ba pgkaalam mo sa ninakawan ng kwento? well im not used to argue with ladies but itatama lang kita kung ok lang sayo..? alam mo get ko ang point mo, you’re mad because NINAKAW kamo ang story.?
miss utara dont you know about PATTERN?
if not ill explain it to you clearly, listen ok.
Para malinaw sayo ang gnawa ng CB is they taking some details from another story and not only from smallville also sa ibang palabas, “BUT” take note! BUT NOT TO COPY IT, kundi IENHANCE and ITWIST ang story..
thats it for now..
hoping for your reply utada ikaru.;)

ok, i must admit ‘yung mga choices of words ko e hindi maganda but what did you expect? not all of us can be writers but all of us have been an audience. and as an audience, i don’t enjoy the fact na sumobra naman ata ‘yung pagkaka-”pattern” na maski ‘yung ibang lines ng movie na kinuhanan ng “pattern” e kinuha na rin. for example, ‘yung episode na guest si marissa and si ruffa mae. nung part na sinabi ni marissa na kilala n’ya si capt. barbell. nung tinanong s’ya nung pulis kung sino si captain barbell, ang sagot n’ya, “i am cap’t barbell!” na may kasamang insane cackles. ganun na ganon ang sinabi ni jim carrey sa batman forever nung tinanong sya ni dr. chase meridian (nicole kidman). ano pa, yung meteor shower sa simula ng capt. barbell tapos na-expose sa radiation yung mga taong malapit sa site kung saan bumagsak yung mga meteors. that is so smallville, not to mention na meron syang kaibigan na anak ng isang uber-rich and uber-influential personality in town, na naging kaaway ni capt. barbell. that is just too much. is that what you call enhancement? buti nga ngayon unti-unti nang nawawala ‘yung “similarities” (o ayan, ginandahan ko na ‘yung term ko huh) ng program sa mga shows na nabanggit ko. look, i can’t even imagine how hard it is to write an original, and according to you, who used to be a stage writer, na maraming natutuwa sa mga writers kapag kaya nilang magtwist and mag enhance ng isang story para maging iba, kasi in that way, people can actually relate, pero using that “pattern” thingy too much would lead people to believe that the story in itself e parang hindi na talaga binigyan ng panahon na maisip para maging bago, which then leads to people saying that capt. barbell is a rip-off of smallville. they are the writers but we are the audience and unfortunately, not all of us can empathize with writers like you do since you used to do it too. all of us have different opinions you know. you can’t expect everyone to like what you like and diss us like the way you did on your later posts. the fact that you called us “talanka” is a very offensive remark. if you have empathy on capt. barbell’s writers then why can’t you have empathy on the people who’re actually watching it? kahit sino, edukado o hinde, mapipikon sa mga posts mo kanina. oh and btw, it’s not utada hikaru, utada hikaru is a famous japanese singer. it’s utara.
October 2nd, 2006 at 11:03 pm
i get your point miss.
gaya nga ng sabi mo di lahat may potential maging writers, like you. Don’t you know that WRITERS & DIRECTORS is the NO.1 prosecutors when it comes sa mga movie. Ok all audience have the right to speak their own opinion.. But lagi nyong tatandaan hindi trabaho ng mga tao ang sumuri ng palabas kung bakit ganito, kung bakit ganyan, kaya nangyayari voice out lang ng voice out pero wala tlgang alam..
Let the Writers and Directors do the job to being more clean, not just some people who watched smallville then kung ano na pnagssabi sa CB..
Bkit ang Batman may gaya sa Superman? ill give you sample… this incoming Spiderman 3 ok… FYI po Mkakalaban nya ang kanyang sarili (Dark Side nya),. e Ung Superman ni Christopher Reeves i think but not sure sa Superman 3 kinalaban nya ang darkside nya.. o dba.. why don’t you try to argue sa writers ng Spiderman?
well as far as i can see… its a twist kind of story although kinuha nila ung idea sa superman….
sorry u’re utara pala….
keep on replying ah…:)
October 3rd, 2006 at 1:37 am
October 3rd, 2006 at 2:41 am
‘yung pagkalaban ni superman sa sarili n’ya and ‘yung pagkalaban ni spiderman sa sarili n’ya may have similar concept but the foundation of the story is quite different. i think dito naia-apply ‘yung sinasabi mong ‘pattern’ wherein may binabasehan ang writer ng story n’ya from another story pero the writer managed to innovate it. just like darna and dark darna which happened a long time ago. may mga tao bang nagsabi na ginaya ng darna ang superman dahil kinalaban din nya yung dark side nya? i don’t think so. and i also don’t think na may mga taong nagsabi na ginaya ng writers ng darna ang story nila sa ibang tv series. siguro may mga binasehan din yung mga writers ng darna na ibang story pero hindi talaga nahalata kasi they were successful in enhancing it. and maybe the writers of spiderman based their story on superman fighting his dark side pero hindi rin natin alam kasi superheroes fighting their darker side had always been present in almost any superhero film or series. in short, that kind of concept is somewhat common but never ceases to create interest. are you getting my point? and btw, i can’t comment much on writers and directors being the no.1 prosecutors when it comes to movie, but i can say that movie and/or tv series writers coniders the reaction of the public, kung pa’no maa-appreciate ng tao ‘yung story itself, not the techniques used or as to where the writers based their story. it’s all about the quality of the story. kasi kung hindi, e para kanino pa sila sumusulat ng story? i know that being a writer doesn’t always mean that you have to write for people’s approval, you write because you happen to love doing it, pero i also think na writers continue on writing because they also want to see people feel good about their creation. writers don’t always write for the enjoyment and appreciation of another writer, you know. i get the fact na naa-appreciate mo ‘yung mga writers ng CB kaya you flamed us who spoke our minds, pero we just can’t see it the way you do because we’re not writers, but that doesn’t necessarilly mean that we’re empty-headed. you’re seeing the how’s, not the why’s, get it? i have no idea how hard it is to be a CB writer, but it wouldn’t hurt creating more story innovations/enhancements if basing their story on another story can’t be helped. ‘wag namang masyadong obvious, that is my point. i’m hoping na maintindihan mo kung bakit may mga taong nakakapag-react about CB the way they did here. that doesn’t mean na they’re walang alam, they’re just saying na magkaroon ng sariling image si captain barbell, hindi isang mere local version ni superman.

Natural!!. That’s the pattern was.
Twisting the story on someone’s idea.
ang isa lang tlga ang kinaasaran ko sa TFC eh. ung pedro penduko..ok na sana pero how he get his ability from puso ng saging is a concept of she-man ni joey de leon.
Enwei back to CB.

you’re still lack of idea how to compare what is original and copy…
its not enough na nakikita mo lang..
take it on me..
Cant tell you all i know, but if you listen you will find out..

omg sa dinami-dami ng mga na-post ko you really weren’t able to understand what i was saying. i guess there’s no point in continuing this argument. oh, and it’s ok if you can’t tell me all you know because i’m not really interested. i will watch what i want to watch and no one has the right to tell me otherwise.

Nonsense ka kausap, you dont even try to understand what i’m trying to tell….

I’m incredibly impressed with your bilingual skills and your reasoning abilities so feel free to give yourself a hug. Sana nga lang, next time, don’t let your emotions get the better of you because if your not careful then you could be sued for your choices of words. However, you did admit your mistake and that is proof that you are well educated. As for you Dubai Rulez, you can stop with “I used to be a stage writer therefore i know more than you” attitude kasi nakakahiya sa mga tunay na writers. Hindi na sana ako papatol but i saw your posts above and I didn’t like it. I’ll tell you the reasons why.
1. You have saying over and over again that you used to stage write and you have also been telling people about pattern. I personally have no problems about letting other people know about it but I couldn’t help but notice your lack of understanding about what your talking about. Why weren’t you able to understand the difference between a successful patterned story from an unsuccessful one? Hindi mo ba napag-aralan yan? Bakit si Utara, na hindi naman writer, was able to differentiate the two? Nagpatama ka pa sa kanya nung sinabi mo na voice out lang ng voice out pero wala namang laman, have you been staying in Dubai long enough to forget that the Philippines is a democratric country and that the freedom of speech is being greatly exercised? which brings me to my next reason.
2. All writers have been exercising the right to free speech. The right to express their own opinions. You’ve been telling people that their opinions are worthless not because they lack intelligence, but because their opinions differ from yours. You have no right to tell people that, absolutely no right. If you really are as educated as you claim you are then you should’ve known better than flaming other people just because they disagree with you. Flaming means using insulting words to people because they disagree with you.
3. Speaking of education, didn’t you learn anything from your English classes when you were stil studying? Why don’t you try reading your posts above and count how many grammatical errors you’ve made. Pretty pathetic for someone who used to stage write, wouldn’t you agree? After reading your conversation with Utara, I could tell between the two of you is more educated, more well-mannered and more mature and unfortunately (for you) it’s not you. HIndi lang yun, lalo pa kaming tumawa nung sinabi ni Utara yung tungkol sa empathy kasi eampathy happens to be one of the most crucial tool that a writer uses to write.
4. You’ve been underestimating these people too much that you’re starting to see yourself as a writing guru. About your comment on “WRITERS & DIRECTORS is(?) the NO.1 prosecutors when it comes sa mga movie” (is ba talaga o are, hmm?) that is true but one thing that they, or we don’t do is to tell people that their stupid because they don’t see it the way that us, true writers and directors, see it. Some of them never will because writing is a calling. just like being a doctor. If you really are a writer like you claim, then you would’ve known this before you even start posting.
5. You are in desparate need of improving your comprehensive skills. Sinabihan mo yung ka-debate mo na nonsense kausap at hindi man lang naintindihan yung mga gusto mong sabihin but in fact, ikaw yung hindi makaintindi. Like i said before, pinabasa ko sa mga kaibigan kong writers AND directors yung mga pinagsasasabi mo and they all said the same thing. “Pa’no naging writer yan kung hindi kumpleto ang pagkakaintindi sa story patterning? Ni hindi pa nga marunong mag-English!”
Now if I were you, I’d stop wallowing on the idea that I used to stage write and worse, telling people on the net about it kasi nakakahiya. I’ve been writing for a little over a couple of decades now and have seen most of my stories on the big screen and on the tube so I do know what I’m talking about. To Utara, wag kang maniwala sa sinabi nyan sa yo. It is true na kulang pa ang nalalaman mo, then again, sino ba talaga ang kumpleto ang kaalaman, but you’re more than a writer than that guy can ever be. Just be careful next time with your words. To Dubai Rulez, it’s up to you if your going to reply but to me, and my incredibly talented friends, you’ve already lost your credibility.
October 7th, 2006 at 2:51 am
Hay nako! nagreresearch ako di ako nakikipagaway bakit kayo naninira ng ibang shows?? eh kung kayo kaya gumawa ng show tapos insultuhin siguro!?…. kapamilya ka noh??? hmmm i think so kapamilya ka nga!? dont waste your time sa paninira ng ibang show! thats all! kahit papano medyo may story naman ung CB eh!
October 7th, 2006 at 7:47 am
thanks ‘Pinas Rules for defending me and seeing my point. it’s true when you said that sometimes, i do let my emotions get the better of me but i’m learning to control it now. i’ll always keep your words in my mind. good luck on your writing career sir, or ma’am.
October 7th, 2006 at 10:47 pm
Sus si pinas nagmarunong…..
It dosnt matter if i have an errors on my english language. but seems that if you’re a writer dapat alam mong hndi lahat ng writer bihasa sa english.. unlike you mukhang TALENDONG tao.
And dami tlgang nagmamagaling sa pinas.. ang hirap tuloy umuwi.. Kaya walang asenso lahat nagmamagaling..
What we have now in Philippines dahil sa freedom of speech na yan? at sa sobrang freedom ha Pinas Rules?
Pinas, why dont you try tignan muna sarili mo bago ako.
Tignan mo walang problema magulang mo.

I just want to share this TRIVIA to those people who are really not an open minded to the other side of the coin.
Captain Barbell vs. Smallville/Superman
Arell/Captain Barbell is an earthling from the future and “arrives” via time machine; Clark Kent/Superman is an alien from another planet and arrives via spaceship.
In Captain Barbell, the crash landings of time machine sent explosions all over the place; in Smallville, the spaceship’s landing was accompanied with meteor shower which exploded all over the place.
Arell is found by an elderly couple who became his grandparents, who in turn gave him to their married son; Clark is found by a childless couple and raised him as their own child.
Teng is painfully aware early on his childhood that he is adopted and has an unknown past; Clark became only aware of his past in his teens.
Teng has a pockmark on his face which disappears when he is Captain Barbell; Clark wears an eyeglass which he didn’t use when he is Superman.
Teng uses a golden medallion-barbell plate to transform to Captain Barbell; Clark strips down his clothes to transform to Superman.
Teng is exceptional basketball player, while Clark is an ace football player.
Their love interests: Lea Lazaro for Captain Barbell, and Lana Lang and Lois Lane for Superman, shares the same initials – L.L.
Captain Barbell vs. Spider-Man
In Captain Barbell, Lolo Aloy was assaulted by assassins and died while Teng was in a debut party.
In Spider-Man’s case, Uncle Ben died because Peter Parker let the thief, who would be his uncle’s murderer, escape.
Both Teng and Peter Parker blame themselves for their grandfather’s and uncle’s death, respectively.
Lolo Aloy is Teng’s inspiration to become Captain Barbell, as Uncle Ben is to Peter Parker.
Levi, Teng’s friend hates Captain Barbell for his girlfriend’s death. Harry Osborn, Peter’s friend, hates Spider-Man for his father’s death.
Teng was oppressed for his social status and physical appearance. Peter Parker was oppressed for being a weakling and a nerd.
At one point, both of them quit from becoming superheroes. Teng buried the Barbell underground along with his time machine while Peter dumped his costume into the trash can.
Coincidence? I doubt.

December 22nd, 2006 at 2:25 am
u guyz r not gonna get anywhere by just talking, if ur really concerned then why don’t u just call them and complain..and if u don’t wanna call, then just don’t watch dat show if u really hate it. there’s a bunch of different shows on GMA that don’t copy smallville, watch it.
December 28th, 2006 at 6:49 am

I’m a kapuso fan,but i agree with chaka.i dont like the story and love triangle in CB,especially the suit..ewww…what kind of muscle is that…
January 2nd, 2007 at 4:05 am
the original concept of CB played by edu and herbert is much better than a
more hi-tech CB today..
January 2nd, 2007 at 7:24 am

I used to be an avid fan of the Filipino writers (of whatever) and Music composers (of whatever). I am neither against any sexual references (as in gays or lesbians) nor any Television networks in our country (The Republic of the Philippines). But I am very concern about the literacy, Social and Moral Values, Important Issues, and the Degrading Mentality of most Filipinos (the percentage it is going up) that watch Television everyday (since 1992 up to the present), kasi,… all they see on T.V. is Soap Operas of Fantasy from a creation of non-logical stories. Sometimes a stupid gyration of dancers (that look like a parade of G.R.O’s trying to get the attention of fuck-hungry clients). I am also saddened by what I see on T.V. screen; our actors and actresses does not look like Filipino’s at all!!!
Ang mga inu-uto ninyo ay mga murang gulang na tao na nanonood ng T.V. after Dinner and during Lunch, which majority of them are during school breaks, office breaks, Quality Family times, and right before midnight (of which you call it “Prime Timeâ€). Alam nyo naman na karamihan sa atin could not afford “Cable T.V.Channels†(unless, makapag “tap†or magnakaw ng linya). Bakit hindi kayo kumuha ng mga Artista na talagang marunong umarte at yung my itsura ni “Mike Enriques†kung sa lalakeng artista (I am proud to say that he is “Tunay na Pilipino sa isip, sa salita at sa itsura) at yung kamukha ni Miriam Quiambao kung sa itsura naman ng artistang Pilipina.
I have a lot of friends (Foreign) here and abroad. Hindi ko maipaliwanag sa kanila whenever they ask “The faces of your actors and actresses does not look like Filipinos and Filipinas, do you have a bias agains the real Filipino looking people in your country?
And where are our original Identity in terms of Social mentality and our Music?
Just Me,
Agustin

wag kayong maniwala sa mga rating kasi it’s just a survey of merely 100 people or more. They could be all Kapuso or Kapamilya. Better yet, believe what is done right and has captivating storylines.
April 23rd, 2007 at 2:44 am
ang pangit pangit ng GMA! its so boring! shows nla ay plging fantasy… sa bagay…walang marunung mag act! buti pa ang kapamilya! wahahahahahahaha! bsta GMA sux!
May 6th, 2007 at 7:21 pm

Whois this “Chardnick” Guy… He he he… If you wanna mud sling… Make sure that you hit it direct… I can clearly see that you’re a fag trying to speak out without using your brain…
I am neither a GMA nor an ABS fan… All i can say is… Being in a creative team, and paid well. Maybe youse guys should come up with something a lil’ more original… And to you Blabber mouth Chard… I just watch the damn show CB once… I am not at all into these crap! Coz once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen em all…
September 27th, 2007 at 8:56 am
September 28th, 2007 at 5:35 am
i am not kapuso or either kapamilya fan but I watch what i think is good to my taste. i agree na we should accept changes pero I think hindi katanggap tanggap ang pagbabago ng story and pangongopya sa isang foreign shows. nawawala yung true Filipino creativity. According sa anak ni mars “A lot of Mars Ravelo fans complained about how completely different they were from the original materials. But as much as we wanted to retain the story lines, we are obliged to give the network a free hand in creating their own updated versions. We understand the ratings game.” They were only concerned sa ratings at sa profit ng shows nila.Tama nga si Michaela Cabrera na ang TV is still a business so priority nila ang pera at hindi ang creativity and originality ng isang palabas. Kung baga bakit ka pa gagawa ng original kung tried and tested na ang isang palabas all you have to do is copy it. It’s like a disease na wala ng lunas.
October 6th, 2007 at 7:31 am
