Calla Lily 05/31/06

I finally got to see an episode of Calla Lily yesterday. Due to a scheduling problem, I’m not sure if the episode was really for yesterday or for May 30. Anyway… I liked it.

The episode opened with the beauty pageant that Lily joined. Sharlene San Pedro was really good in her scenes as both Lily and Calla. Although she seems more comfortable as Calla, she was adorable. Angel Sy also did well as the bestfriend.

Johnny Delgado and Evangeline Pascual gave good performances as the grandparents. They performed just enough not to outshine Sharlene. However, I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. I know they’re not exactly a “love team,” but still, they should have a certain amount of rapport between them.

Gerald Madrid was surprisingly good. He fared better than Yul Servo and Ana Roces. Ana also had too much make up on, di kapani-paniwala na factory worker siya. They should have gotten a less sophisticated looking actress. But I’ll give her another chance since she seems to have done well in the “abangan bukas” scenes.

Erich Gonzales and Rodjun Cruz also did well. May kilig. But there were times when I felt like they were merely uttering their lines and not really feeling the moment.

One disappointment, however, was the editing. The cutting of the “chismis” scenes was confusing and irritating. It could have been a good sequence, but was not handled well.
