It was ok. Not bad, but not great either. I applaud the scholars for giving a relatively good performance. However, the concept of the opening number was really… inappropriate and kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
The group performances were so-so. But I was impressed with Yvan’s group. The song is kinda cliche but the group managed give a good, harmounious and well-prepared performance.
On the other hand, Richard’s group was the absolute worst. They lacked harmony and each member seemed to be bent on outshining his/her groupmate. Special mention goes to Gemma who totally tried to steal the show.
Yeng’s group did ok. They had a good start, choreography and direction-wise. Their voices also blended well, but they seemed kinda lost towards the end of the song.
RJ’s group seemed like a group of high schoolers forced by their teacher to give an impromptu performance. But they still deserve a bit of applause for thinking of the drama chuvaness, which added a bit of positive points to their number.
RJ’s song, “Miss Kita Pag Tuesday” is my favorite. It made me smile when he sang it during the eliminations in Manila a few weeks back. I was also able to appreciate the other compositions. One of the things I really like about the show is how it also aims to harness the scholar’s creative skills in terms of songwriting. Hopefully, more good songs will come out of the show.
The show, in general, seemed to be done by a bunch of amateurs. Which is understandable, but still not worthy of praise. The scholars, as well, as the show’s production have a lot, lot, lot to do before they can be fully praised and given recognition.
A postscript: Why is it that Jun Hirano seems to have a lot of fans. Yes, he seems to be hard-working. But talent-wise, he hasn’t got the goods compared to some of the other scholars. Is it because he’s half-Japanese? I hope this does not factor in much into the voting. Because unlike PBB this is a TALENT SEARCH!

to the 1st gala show of PDA… yeah i do agree chad’s group was the worst… too bad two of my bet scholar belong to the group.. gemma and rosita, specially gemma do not belong to the rock genre. i could imagine other people like eman or jayR or Yvan working with Panky, Chai and Chad in a rock song…

haaayyy….chika, i won’t make my statement long here. just like what i have been thinking, the concept of Pinoy Dream Academy is misleading.
Kung musicality ang focus ng PDA eh di dapat doon sila at hindi sa kung anong breeding at good looks chuva. keep on checking pinoy.rickey.org, mas marami kang malalaman at sa comparison nito sa starstruck, pinoy pop superstar, star in a million, star circle quest and philippine idol. kung talent search, bakit walang kasamang acting skills? hahahhaha

1st gala night it was great….. i like the hawak kamay of yeng…. and the miss kita kung tuesday of rj….. in fairness bagay sila…….. nakakainis si rosita…. even her fellow scholars are inis na sa kanya…. so much kasi ang ugali nya…. medyo nakakasira rin sya sa view lalo na pag katabi nya ung mga beautiful girls dun like gemma ang irish….. so galing din maghost ni bianca……… ronnie cute sya….

kc ako i didnt even missed one episode of pda but i dont like phil. idol eitheir pero i know it was a great show and they have very good talents rin naman…kc pag ngtatan0ng ako sa mga skulmate ko npanuod nyo b ung last episode ng pda…ndi dw…and never p dw!!pero ala p naman akong nrinig n ang ganda ng phil.idol!!pero cguro sobrang mg-ciclikk naman ang phil idol kya lng sa chanel 5 ipinalabas kya d rim msyadong nsusubaybayan at d alm ng kramihan ang timeslot…phil. idol vs. pda……well back to my question..ano ang ngaclick and anu ang mas maganada….no wars d2 hah…at kung meron kaung reklamo sa coment ko…i wont reply nah anymore!!;)

neither of the shows clicked, yun nga lang mas applauded ng mga fuzzy people ang philippine idol.
siguro sa ratings mas mataas ang pinoy dream academy pero in terms of professionals’ points of view, maganda ang philippine idol.
hindi kasi komo’t kapamilya network ang nagpapalabas ay ‘maganda’, kasi may mga kapamilya shows lalo na ang imports turn out to be crappy.
sa pinoy.rickey.org, lambasted ang pinoy dream academy. sabagay, nakikita rin nila kung gaano ka-misleading ang tema ng pda eh.

Jun is a great performer. Kung tutuusin mas mahirap sa kanya dahil hindi siya makapag-perform nang according sa gusto niya. And he was able to learn how to play instruments on his own, composed his own songs when he was in elementary. Nagkataon lang na di siya fluent sa Filipino at sa English. He is trying to learn. If you can’t appreciate those, then malaki ang problema ninyo sa utak.
