Star Cinema‘s Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo topbilled by Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo is definitely one of the best local films made in recent history.
The story was simple, yet very truthful. The treatment was perfect. The acting was superb.
The storyline and the script was very simple and relatable, yet it is not cliche. It shows a lot of heart and a lot of wit. Once again, Jose Javier Reyes proves that he is one of the best in the business. He does not aspire for an inspirational, or didactic attack. Rather, he tells and shows it as it is and he manages to get the point across without being preachy. The simplicity of the film and of the story gives it its charm.
And of course, it would not be good without the excellent acting of the actors. Judy Ann Santos is good. She is sooo charming in the movie, yet not OA or pa-cute. She was, for a change, underacting which worked well. Ryan Agoncillo, although not yet deserving of an award, showed that he can act. Meanwhile, the support cast, save for AJ Perez, Kat Alano, and Derek Ramsay, really managed to shine. While Kat and Derek gave flat performances, Lui Villaruiz and Tuesday Vargas were good. Of course, the most notable support cast members are Gina Pareño, Gloria Diaz, and Soliman Cruz. Although some might view Gina’s performance as over the top, I see it as a neccessity. The character wouldn’t have worked if Gina didn’t deliver it the way she did. Gloria Diaz was also perfect as Ryan’s meddling mother. While Soliman’s quiet performance showed just enough emotion and force. Another good performance was delivered by Juliana Palermo. She didn’t have much work to do, but she gave more than what was required of her.
All in all, it was defnitely not a perfect film. But it is definitely a must-see movie, not just for the performances, but more so for the simple, understated manner it delivered the story.
PS Dear Star Cinema, Please don’t ruin the film by making a forced sequel just to earn more money.

It’s a great movie. Hagalpak talaga kami ng tawa. We watched it with my whole family. Touching yung part na nag-iiyakan sina juday at ryan sa paglabas ng baby at pag-reconcile nila. I read from PEX na kumita na ito ng 190M and still counting. JUDAY RULEZ!!!!
