GMA 7’s claim that they are the Philippines’ No. 1 TV Network has just been debunked by a recent national survey made by AGB Nielsen Media Research (Philippines).
It turns out that GMA 7 only leads in Mega Manila and Southern Luzon over their rival ABS-CBN.
The AGB Nielsen’s first nationwide urban television audience measurement (NUTAM) shows that ABS-CBN’s 43-percent viewership share put the company ahead of rival GMA Networks Inc., which garnered 35.2-percent rating, during the survey period October 8 to October 13.
NUTAM is an expansion of the current AGBNMR panel installation in Metro Manila homes. Using the on-line “peoplemeter,†it provides a total picture of television viewership in the entire Philippines through 24-hour monitoring of the panel homes.
A total of 1,500 panel homes will represent a universe of 7.26 million national urban TV homes from the following areas: North and Central Luzon with 300 homes; Metro Manila, 400 homes; South Luzon, 300 homes; Visayas, 300, homes; and Mindanao, 200 homes.

Gusto ko lang sabihin na gma won Asian TV Aawrds Terrestial Channel of The Year last 2005. Gma lang ang nanalo ng ganitong award sa Pilipinas. Sigura naman wala na dyang tao na magsasabi na hindi nila kilala ang award giving body na ito. hihihhi.
Mag-research po kayo kung hindi kayo aware sa pagkanalo ng GMA sa award na ito dahil baka-sabihin ng iba dyan na nagagawa lang ako ng istorya. Credible po ang award giving body na yan.

duh i admit na tlagan bago pa ang PinoyTV and theyve got an award which i really don’t know kung anong award yun.
di ko rin kasi alam ang PEABODY award na yan it’s because i never kmew bout that anyways…
well have you ever realized na kung ano man ang programs ng GMA7 ganun rin ang programs ng Pinoytv?
so hindi na nakapagtataka na at that early makakakuha na sila ng award hindi ba?

Halos na-guest na niya ang lahat ng shows ng ABS na puede siyang mag-guest.

abs-cbn parin ako.. kahit na marami nominations ang gma – nominations lang yan… hindi naman nakukuha sa nominations yan eh, parang its sarcastic na sabihin na no. 1 ang gma.. when in fact, most of the people in northern luzon support abs-cbn…northern luzon palang yan, pano pa ang mga sinasabi ni sir adonis? gma7 ok kung sa ok, pero at least matitino pa rin ang artists sa abs-cbn, hindi naninira… like ung kay lolit? and ung kay joey na banat kay willy?
TFC subscribers parin ang orig, gaya gaya lang gma eh!.. kung ano patok sa abs eh ginagaya nila.. ka corny naman…

I highly respect every individuals opinion. Let me tell you this ABS-CBN is the NO.1 station no more no less.
GMA vs ABS-CBN (primetime shows)
GMA is very obyus na desperado to get the attention of the Filipino viewers w/out thingking of the quality of the shows.
ZAIDO (may values ba na matutunan ang mga kabataan sa show na yan?)
Lastikman (pinapakita ang Filipino values and culture from the house hangang sa labas ng kunidad.)
Marimar (another desperate act na alam naman nating na show sa KAPAMILYA b4. sinira lang nila ang magandang alaala na iniwan ni thalia sa mga pinoy na tulad ko.)
Princees Sarah (watch it and you’ll be able to appreciate life how rich or poor you are. sa mga nanay dyan let your kids watch the show. marami silang magagandang aral na matutunan dito.)
La Vendeta (inunahan nyo lang ang patayin sa sindak si barbara… takot ba kayo sa sarili nyyong multo?)
Pangarap na Bituin (shows the importance of family values)
Kamandag (bago pa xa kaya pa akong masabi)
Ysabella ( starring judy ann santos… sobrang ganda ang storya. napakataas ng kalidad. wag nyong kalimutan na ang soap ni juday ang nanalo for best primetime last year.)
GGENERAL REMARKS: ABS-CBN always prioritize of what the viewing public will get from wacthing there shows. Hindi nawala ang kulturang pinoy at ang mga magagandang ugali ng pinoy. That is what we called quality. Iniisip ng management na ang mga nanonood ay hindi lamang sina kapusoaqforever, rc is kapuso, etc kundi lahat ng pinoy w regards of age, gender, status and other pipol in the whole world w different culture w us.

If you are going to examine both shows and compare it na gamit ang matalino mong pag iisip…
champions vs constellation of stars
lahat ng kakanta sa champions kilala mo lahat pero try mong manood sa siete and you will ask sino yan? bakit yan andyan?
that is becoz masyado silang focus kay regine kasi si regine lang naman ang pambato nila. the fact remains that it is only regine ang puwede nilang ipag malaki from SOP. tapos makikita mo na ang mga host ng SOP parang nagbabasa lang, walang audience contact. Try to watch ASAP, kahit sino isalang mo sa hosting maganda tingnan at pakingan.
Yan lang naman ang kayang gawin ni Johny Manahan. Bringing the Kapamilya stars w/ high integrety.

What happen to GMA, they only won 1 award out of 10 nominations!!!??? Poor GMA talo na naman ng ABS, i tot makakabawi na kayo ngayon sa ABS in terms of awards with 10 nominations alone in Asian TV Awards but it turn out ironically, ABS became victorious winning 2 with only 4 nominations duh!
It a shame for GMA, that\’s why they\’ve got a blackout news regarding Asian TV Awards in Saksi on the night after the ATA concluded. HAHAHA!

i think i’ll stay with the network that has credibility…has high regards to what Filipino viewers need to know and understand…a tv station that marks and always be a part of Philippine History…with a news organization that shows everything…even at their most tragic moment. abs is the no. 1 proven nayan..ang gma sa manila lang sila nag rate..dito sa cebu abs talaga and other parts of the country no1 sila ..world wide na yung abs…

gma lang nag claim na sila ang no.1 but according to survey,abs cbn talaga di lang mataggap nang gma na no.2 lng sila eversince,,diba? tlaga abs naman no.1 for how nay years nyan..kahit sa abroad nakilala ang artista ng abs,,gma,di talaga..

kahit i search nyo sa google ABS-CBN talaga lalabas no`1 sila bat di yan matanngap ng GMA suppoters? mamatay ba sila? kahit dito sa qatar no1.1 ang abs..thank you lumipat si ruffa gutierrez sa abs,,,abs-cbn the no1 network in the couyntry search nyo yan,,,

anyway i post i comment to bring the truth..
Accoring to surveys… GMA Network is a number one station only in mega manila and southern luzon. Meanwhile in the other hand ABS-CBN maintain it’s lead over other provinces or shud i say major provinces. e.g. Cebu, Davao). Pero not all provinces in Philippines covered ng AGB Nielsen- the one authorized and the basis of survey. So meaning GMA & ABS-CBN is only competting in mega manila since GMA doesnt focused sa provinces unLike Abs-Cbn n number 1 na. GMA is just starting to compete over provinces..
GMA started from a small network progressing. Just like a “rag-to-riches” story. Unlike ABS-CBN na its all ready a progress network. the TV Commercialize network in pinas. So in total Number 1 parin ang ABS-CBN, but to tell the truth ABS-CBN’s popularity is downGrading while GMA is Upgrading. They Out Score ABS-CBN sa mega manila which is the primary target-market ng two Network. Advertizes income increase in GMA. And i can foresee it will continue to progess unless ABS-CBN could not recover it’s reputation-as we all know bumaba reputaion nila.
Sa TV shows naman, dami sinasangkutan na scandal ang ABS-CBN while GMA ng Focus on progressing kaya ganun..
In scripting, maganda sa GMA nga script and stories nila while in ABS-CBN maganda naman actions and special effects. But if i am to view lawsi pangit pa ring effects ng Abs-cbn and of course mas pangit sa GMA pero at least maganda story sa GMA. So ABS-CBN is like a trying hard copycat, na Ginagaya ang effects in US Shows. And onethings sa ABS, most of thier show a franchise from network oversea. so meaning la silang originality, but it has a good effect on them since na rate naman ung francize nila…
so mga reparipz kau n bahala sinu number 1 sa inyo. this will always a pararell issues. ^^.

ABS-CBN is the first TV Commercialize network in pinas and is the largest integrated media and entertainment company in the Philippines with an asset base of more than PHP28 billion (US$613 million) as of current 2007.
So malaki pinuhunan ng ABS-CBN, kaya nung mgStart sila, umangat or mataas n agad ratings nila. As i have said the 1st Commercialize TV network.
While GMA nag start talaga from a small business. so after more than 50 years nila at last they are at the peak.. Ng uumpisa palang ang pagSikat ng GMA, dats the truth….
GMA is telling the public that they are the number one which is true only in mega manila, on the other hand ABS-CBN is telling the public that they are the number one which is also true but only outside mega manila or in the major provinces of the Philippine Island.

well it migh be shamefull, but you should also think ABS-CBN is saying that too.. SO both station must be shameful. GMA & ABS-CBN shows in Primetime Evenings ai walang binat bat sa HBO’s “Heroes and ROME” at iba pang show internationally…
So adonis try to think sa mga quotation n binibitawan nang networks… Hindi ibig sabihin nu number 1 sila in the world condi pang “World class” daw ang quality.
Malakas rating ng ABS-CBN sa labas since they already establish a network oversea. Malakas n promotion nila doon..

i had a copy of francise contract. of the two network. at kahit itanong mu yan sa mga Fans Dati ni marimar nung 1990′s RPN po Galing yan… (Tanga k rin pala walang basis.. nayahahaa.. NO Heart feeling ^^)

Which network is no. 1 in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo?

With GMA Network maintaining its stronghold of the number one spot in Mega Manila TV ratings, it has now targeted the regions, specifically Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo.
In its effort to create awareness among viewers in those areas, GMA has launched various initiatives to support the effort. Among those initiatives is the pioneering Kapuso Kabarangay project. Since last year, GMA stations in Cebu, Davao and Iloilo have been regularly visiting different barangays, providing entertainment and more to local communities.
The regular GMA activity must have been creating significant impact among local residents that the Network’s biggest rival began to hold similar events in the same areas.
ABS-CBN has been claiming dominance in ratings in these areas but many are wondering why they resort to merely imitating the initiatives of the Network that lags behind them in ratings in the provinces instead of keeping a full step ahead of their rival by coming up with original concepts.
Recently, ABS-CBN came out with print-ads in provincial dailies, specifically those in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, indicating their supposedly higher ratings over GMA. They used the TV diary type of survey conducted by Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, while they cited data from PSRC’s survey in Iloilo. Unlike the Mega-Manila surveys where TV meters are used to generate data, the regional surveys are done using the “day-after-recall†method. The method, many research specialists will tell you, is not accurate compared to the TV meter-based survey.
If GMA Network did not commission the TV diary surveys of Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, then could it be true that ABS-CBN commissioned them? If so, doesn’t it follow, like during the elections, that the groups that commission the surveys get favorable results?
We also learned that the TV diary survey covered the months of March to May 2006. But what came out in their print ads were only the survey results for the month of April. Where are the March and May results?
Meanwhile in Iloilo, the results of the 1st quarter PSRC survey conducted last March 5 to 11 were recalled and invalidated due to the supposed promotional activities of the networks during the fieldwork week, which favorably affected the outcome. The survey was repeated from April 16-22. The results yielded from the resurvey was tagged “1st Quarter.†How can this be when the survey was conducted in April? We all know that April is already in the second quarter.
Also, based on the results of the last quarter 2005 PSRC survey in Iloilo, many GMA programs that used to be in the top 10 dropped several notches in the April survey, which may not be possible in meter-based surveys. Some ABS-CBN programs also posted audience shares as much as 92 percent, which appear to be absurd.
Many are also wondering how important are the audiences outside of Metro Manila for ABS-CBN that it is now focusing their efforts on trying to stave off the gains of GMA-7 in nationwide poll surveys?
Perhaps its existence rests on the provinces as QTV-11 and ABC-5 are slowly eating up on the network’s audience share in Mega Manila.
ABS-CBN vs. ABC
After the very successful turnout in the Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions in which thousands of hopefuls from all walks of life tried out, it is safe to say that American Idol’s local counterpart is destined to be big.
The show promises to be so big that even industry giant ABS-CBN seems a bit worried as it has cooked up a new show to go against ABC’s Philippine Idol.
ABS-CBN has reportedly postponed the airing of the second season of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother to give way to a new reality show called Pinoy Dream Academy, which has the same format as Idol.
This development only affirms suspicion that ABS-CBN’s entertainment group’s creative juices have dried up. Now, the network has been reduced to being nothing but a second rate trying hard copycat (with apologies to Lavinia, the antagonist in the movie Bituing Walang Ningning, which is now a soap opera on ABS-CBN). And retrofitting a format of an existing program in other station is, of course, the most despicable act that a network could do if only to try to steal the audience of that show and eventually “kill’ it.
FremantleMedia Supervising Producer Sheldon Bailey who recently visited Manila in time for Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions said of ABS-CBN’s new reality show, “To me Dream Academy is just Big Brother with music. It started off as Star Academy but it got pulled out, I think, after two series. It was in England for two series as Fame Academy and it was stopped after two seasons. I think it has been sold in around 17 countries while Idol is in 34 territories.â€
“Idol has a stronger format. In fact, when you look at Star Academy’s original show, the one in Dutch, it is very different from what they see now because it actually has taken so many elements from Idol. And what we have here, our three judges, Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corrales, and Francis M, know what they are talking about, we have the credibility, we have the authority, we have the respect. You can’t beat that,†she added.
Philippine Idol is not the only show ABS-CBN is targeting to “kill†as they already launched a copycat show of ABC’s Shall We Dance? The Celebrity Dance Challenge.
“The ratings of ABS-CBN’s U Can Dance pilot episode didn’t affect the ratings of Shall We Dance last Sunday. We are also getting great reviews on our show and we are cooking up something for SWD for the next season. We’re keeping things secret from the industry’s copycats,†Perci Intalan, director for Creative and Entertainment Production declared.

kung kayo matalino gets nyo kung sino ang nagunguna,di na kelangan ng galing sa iba.isipin nyo masaya ba si charo santos ngayong nagunguna sila,di ba hindi kasi guilty sa pandadaya kasabwat ang cable rating.kasi sa totoo lang konti nanonood sa abs pag may cable,at di lahat me cable.pansinin nyo ang mga head ng abs ,nag aabang ng mga young stars ng gma,di sila kuntento sa mga stars nila kasi di kumikita….hahahahahaha.sana ma karma ang mandaraya….hahahahhaha..palibhasa di makuha kiliti ng mega manila

parang baliktad ata yong sinabi mo. tingnan mo nga young stars ng gma, WALANG MGA TALENT! nakikilala lang naman sila (kung kilala nga) kasi parati silang nakikita sa gma shows. at bakit? dahil ala namang variety mga artista don eh—paulit ulit ulit lang sila.
