Which network is no. 1 in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo?

With GMA Network maintaining its stronghold of the number one spot in Mega Manila TV ratings, it has now targeted the regions, specifically Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo.

In its effort to create awareness among viewers in those areas, GMA has launched various initiatives to support the effort. Among those initiatives is the pioneering Kapuso Kabarangay project. Since last year, GMA stations in Cebu, Davao and Iloilo have been regularly visiting different barangays, providing entertainment and more to local communities.

The regular GMA activity must have been creating significant impact among local residents that the Network’s biggest rival began to hold similar events in the same areas.

ABS-CBN has been claiming dominance in ratings in these areas but many are wondering why they resort to merely imitating the initiatives of the Network that lags behind them in ratings in the provinces instead of keeping a full step ahead of their rival by coming up with original concepts.

Recently, ABS-CBN came out with print-ads in provincial dailies, specifically those in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, indicating their supposedly higher ratings over GMA. They used the TV diary type of survey conducted by Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, while they cited data from PSRC’s survey in Iloilo. Unlike the Mega-Manila surveys where TV meters are used to generate data, the regional surveys are done using the “day-after-recall” method. The method, many research specialists will tell you, is not accurate compared to the TV meter-based survey.

If GMA Network did not commission the TV diary surveys of Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, then could it be true that ABS-CBN commissioned them? If so, doesn’t it follow, like during the elections, that the groups that commission the surveys get favorable results?

We also learned that the TV diary survey covered the months of March to May 2006. But what came out in their print ads were only the survey results for the month of April. Where are the March and May results?

Meanwhile in Iloilo, the results of the 1st quarter PSRC survey conducted last March 5 to 11 were recalled and invalidated due to the supposed promotional activities of the networks during the fieldwork week, which favorably affected the outcome. The survey was repeated from April 16-22. The results yielded from the resurvey was tagged “1st Quarter.” How can this be when the survey was conducted in April? We all know that April is already in the second quarter.

Also, based on the results of the last quarter 2005 PSRC survey in Iloilo, many GMA programs that used to be in the top 10 dropped several notches in the April survey, which may not be possible in meter-based surveys. Some ABS-CBN programs also posted audience shares as much as 92 percent, which appear to be absurd.

Many are also wondering how important are the audiences outside of Metro Manila for ABS-CBN that it is now focusing their efforts on trying to stave off the gains of GMA-7 in nationwide poll surveys?

Perhaps its existence rests on the provinces as QTV-11 and ABC-5 are slowly eating up on the network’s audience share in Mega Manila.

ABS-CBN vs. ABC

After the very successful turnout in the Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions in which thousands of hopefuls from all walks of life tried out, it is safe to say that American Idol’s local counterpart is destined to be big.

The show promises to be so big that even industry giant ABS-CBN seems a bit worried as it has cooked up a new show to go against ABC’s Philippine Idol.

ABS-CBN has reportedly postponed the airing of the second season of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother to give way to a new reality show called Pinoy Dream Academy, which has the same format as Idol.

This development only affirms suspicion that ABS-CBN’s entertainment group’s creative juices have dried up. Now, the network has been reduced to being nothing but a second rate trying hard copycat (with apologies to Lavinia, the antagonist in the movie Bituing Walang Ningning, which is now a soap opera on ABS-CBN). And retrofitting a format of an existing program in other station is, of course, the most despicable act that a network could do if only to try to steal the audience of that show and eventually “kill’ it.

FremantleMedia Supervising Producer Sheldon Bailey who recently visited Manila in time for Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions said of ABS-CBN’s new reality show, “To me Dream Academy is just Big Brother with music. It started off as Star Academy but it got pulled out, I think, after two series. It was in England for two series as Fame Academy and it was stopped after two seasons. I think it has been sold in around 17 countries while Idol is in 34 territories.”

“Idol has a stronger format. In fact, when you look at Star Academy’s original show, the one in Dutch, it is very different from what they see now because it actually has taken so many elements from Idol. And what we have here, our three judges, Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corrales, and Francis M, know what they are talking about, we have the credibility, we have the authority, we have the respect. You can’t beat that,” she added.

Philippine Idol is not the only show ABS-CBN is targeting to “kill” as they already launched a copycat show of ABC’s Shall We Dance? The Celebrity Dance Challenge.

“The ratings of ABS-CBN’s U Can Dance pilot episode didn’t affect the ratings of Shall We Dance last Sunday. We are also getting great reviews on our show and we are cooking up something for SWD for the next season. We’re keeping things secret from the industry’s copycats,” Perci Intalan, director for Creative and Entertainment Production declared.

So, he frequents Belo for a regular facial and Quantum SR IPL treatment. His son, teen idol Jeremy, has obviously learned the tricks of the trade from his dad. So, when it comes to facial treatments and skin care, Jeremy also trusts Belo.

Now, who says that facials are only made for women (and men who think and feel they’re women, too)?

well it migh be shamefull, but you should also think ABS-CBN is saying that too.. SO both station must be shameful. GMA & ABS-CBN shows in Primetime Evenings ai walang binat bat sa HBO’s “Heroes and ROME” at iba pang show internationally…

So adonis try to think sa mga quotation n binibitawan nang networks… Hindi ibig sabihin nu number 1 sila in the world condi pang “World class” daw ang quality.

Malakas rating ng ABS-CBN sa labas since they already establish a network oversea. Malakas n promotion nila doon..

So malaki pinuhunan ng ABS-CBN, kaya nung mgStart sila, umangat or mataas n agad ratings nila. As i have said the 1st Commercialize TV network.

While GMA nag start talaga from a small business. so after more than 50 years nila at last they are at the peak.. Ng uumpisa palang ang pagSikat ng GMA, dats the truth….

GMA is telling the public that they are the number one which is true only in mega manila, on the other hand ABS-CBN is telling the public that they are the number one which is also true but only outside mega manila or in the major provinces of the Philippine Island.

Accoring to surveys… GMA Network is a number one station only in mega manila and southern luzon. Meanwhile in the other hand ABS-CBN maintain it’s lead over other provinces or shud i say major provinces. e.g. Cebu, Davao). Pero not all provinces in Philippines covered ng AGB Nielsen- the one authorized and the basis of survey. So meaning GMA & ABS-CBN is only competting in mega manila since GMA doesnt focused sa provinces unLike Abs-Cbn n number 1 na. GMA is just starting to compete over provinces..

GMA started from a small network progressing. Just like a “rag-to-riches” story. Unlike ABS-CBN na its all ready a progress network. the TV Commercialize network in pinas. So in total Number 1 parin ang ABS-CBN, but to tell the truth ABS-CBN’s popularity is downGrading while GMA is Upgrading. They Out Score ABS-CBN sa mega manila which is the primary target-market ng two Network. Advertizes income increase in GMA. And i can foresee it will continue to progess unless ABS-CBN could not recover it’s reputation-as we all know bumaba reputaion nila.

Sa TV shows naman, dami sinasangkutan na scandal ang ABS-CBN while GMA ng Focus on progressing kaya ganun..
In scripting, maganda sa GMA nga script and stories nila while in ABS-CBN maganda naman actions and special effects. But if i am to view lawsi pangit pa ring effects ng Abs-cbn and of course mas pangit sa GMA pero at least maganda story sa GMA. So ABS-CBN is like a trying hard copycat, na Ginagaya ang effects in US Shows. And onethings sa ABS, most of thier show a franchise from network oversea. so meaning la silang originality, but it has a good effect on them since na rate naman ung francize nila…

so mga reparipz kau n bahala sinu number 1 sa inyo. this will always a pararell issues. ^^.
