ABS-CBN, GMA and QTV bagged awards in the 2009 New York Festivals

Three Philippine-produced TV programs have bagged Gold World Medal in the International Television Broadcasting Awards part of the 2009 New York Festivals. The three shows were the Bantay Bata 163 10th anniversary special (ABS-CBN), Jiggy Manicad’s 24 Oras coverage of Corporal Abeto (GMA) and Inno Sotto: A Special Fashion Documentary (QTV).

ABS-CBN Awards
Aside from the Gold World Medal for Bantay Bata 163 10th anniversary special, ABS-CBN received the Silver World Medal (Talk / Interview) for Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda’s morning show, Boy & Kris. On the other hand, Mars Ravelo’s Lastikman starring Vhong Navarro also bagged a Silver World Medal for the Action/Adventure category.

Korina Sanchez, ABS-CBN’s Chief Correspondent and News Anchor was given the Silver World Medal for her investigative report on the substandard supplements. She was also one of the finalists for the Best News Anchor category.

The three Kapamilya shows that were given Finalist Certificates were Kung Fu Kids for Children’s Program, Wowowee for Family Program, and Rated K for Magazine Format.

GMA and QTV Awards
Apart from the Jiggy Macid’s 24 Oras coverage of Corporal Abeto and QTV’s Inno Sotto: A Special Fashion Documentary, several GMA TV programs were also recognized at the 2009 New York Festivals. 24 Oras bagged the Silver World Medal in the Best Newscast Category for its coverage on the “Lanao attacks.” Reporter’s Notebook on the other hand, received a Bronze World Medal in the Best Public Affairs Program for their episode entitled, “Pinays for Export: The Asian Sex Trafficking Trail”.

The Bronze World Medal for the Magazine Format Category was awarded to QTV’s Chef to Go for its episode on the “Pesco Vegetarian Meal”.

A number of GMA-7 programs were also given finalist certificates in their respective categories: Joaquin Bordado for the Action/ Adventure category; Emergency’s “Jumper Kids/Battered Children” for the Social Issues/Current Events Category; and I-Witness’ “Crystal Mountain” for the Community Portraits Category.

Four programs from Q Channel 11 were also recognized with finalist certificates: The Sweet Life for the Magazine Format Category; Ang Pinaka’s “Ang Pinaka Sikat na Pinoy sa Internet” still for the Magazine Format Category; News on Q’s “Batasan Blast” for the Coverage of Breaking News Category; and Draw the Line’s “Ormoc Cult, Early Marriage and Trafficking” episode for the Social Issues/Current Events Category.
